This is only for an article I'm working on.
currently the government has gone to great lengths to ban trans fats from restaurants and from our diets. On the otherhand quite a few people are saying that it is our constitutional right to eat unhealthy food and give ourselves heart attacks. What do you think?
Should the government go this far as to banning trans fat or should they take another approach like warning labels.
I mean adults consuming trans fats. I understand the ban with children eating them.

I think there should be warnings, but as adults we should be able to choose.
There then comes the question that if they are available are unhealthy adults going to feed them to children creating another generation of unhealthy adults....

They should not ban trans-fats resturants have been treated unfairly and even the companies that produce oil have shown they do not make enough product to supply resturants and such with non-trans-fat oils this quickly.....people know that fries are not good for them and that's common sense I do not like the governement controling what I eat....if this continues it will get to the point where when you go to a resturant you can only eat fruits or vegetables..............I think they should warn people when trans-fats are in food but beyond that let the person decide what they want to eat!

I realize that one arguement to this is that the government pays disability of obese people but I do not think that should be considered a disability....you know when you can't get out of bed or walk that maybe it's time to change your diet and stop eating fried foods and start eating salads...this might sound mean but as an adult I want to make my own decisions and other adults should be able to make their own decisions...

I think that Trans fats should be eliminated. If you are going to sell a product that is dangerous then the companies should not be allowed to sell it. It is about being responsible for the products you produce. But the only reason I think the government is involved is due to the costs of medicare. I think that the government is not generally concerned of the effect of trans fats to our bodies. They are just looking of ways to cut costs in government.

I think the government should ban trans fats. Unfortunately people don't make right decisions in their lives. The corporations are surely not going to. They are just taking care about the bottom line.

We should have the freedom to consume whatever we like. Warning labels on products that contain trans fats is a great idea.

There is a book that is out of print but you can still find it on the internet called, "Please Doctor, Do Something." It was written by Dr. Joe Nichols who had a heart attack at an early age. He describes what he did to eliminate the problem. This book was originally written in the 50's. His primary focus was to eliminate hydrogenated oils or what we now call "trans fats." Like many of our foods eaten in America, hydrogenation only helps the manufacturer, retailer, and food distributor because it reduces and even eliminates the product from going rancid. There are many forward thinkers like Joe Nichols that have been explaining the problem with these fats for decades.

By eliminating this from your diet, there is no doubt that it is better. The problem is that it is only one part of the equation. If you don't replace these fats with good fats, you have not improved your health.

What our government should be doing is to put huge pressure on the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to provide quality foods that are good for us by educating the public on what is good for us, to allow the public to make informed decisions on what to eat.

The problem is that our government allows large corporations to dictate what is good and bad for us. Money doesn't talk, it SCREAMS!

The oils that are being substituted in many, many cases are worse than the trans fats they are screaming about.

The heads of the FDA, EPA, and many other government organizations that dictate what is good for us are ex-Monsanto executives and other corporations that are forcing Genetically Modified Foods into our food supply without telling us what foods they are in.

Canola Oil is being touted as a great vegetable oil, but it took the Canadian government $50,000,000 dollars to convince the FDA to allow it to be sold here. It comes from the rape seed plant and even bugs won't eat it! Now the long term effects of this decision are being seen everywhere! This toxic oil is about 100 x as toxic as soybean oil and both of these oils are genetically engineered to Monsanto's Roundup not effect them. So to outlaw trans fats will not solve the problem. We need to get tough with the manufacturers like Monsanto!

I do not believe we should outlaw trans fats, but we should make people aware of what foods are using them, and educate our people on why they are bad and what they are doing to us. Let us make the decisions. I do not eat at restaurants that use Canola or Soybean oils in there foods and I let them know that I don't and tell all my friends.
