My boyfriend and I broke up when I left for college. We attempted the long distance thing, but it didnt work out. I'm tired of hearing give it time, things will get better. I've got plenty to handle, to distract me from thoughts of him. I go out, I concentrate on my studies, I participate in clubs, and activities with friends. I've even gone out on dates to prove to myself that there are other great men out there! I've made a list of the good and bad, then ripped it up. Everything of him is put away in a box. I dont see or speak to him. Nothing seems to work. 18 months is ample time for something like this to heal. And though things may have gotten a little better, the pain still lurks in the shadows. I've accepted that it's over, we can never again be, and its actually for the best. Not a day goes by that he still doesnt cross my mind. Why is it that he so easily has moved on, but yet I'm stuck? How do I finally release this love thats long gone? How do I let go?

First love are always hard to let go. I've been through that road before and the best way to look at it and be thankful that you got to shared some memories with him. Hold onto the good times and learn from the bad. When my ex and I first broke up - it was very difficult for me to let him go..seeing him moving on but eventually you'll learned to accept it and move on. Because if you keep holding yourself back from seeing other people...you'll never find the love you deserve. Plus, there is no point of torturing yourself when you know you deserve better.

maybe this will help please read:
People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a reason it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficult time, to provide you with guidance and support to aide you physically , emotionally or spirtually. They may seem like a godsend and they are . They are there for a reason you need them to be. Then without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvient time this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end sometimes they die or just walk away . sometimes they act up and make you take a stand. What you must realize is that your need has been met and your desires fullfilled . Thier work is done . The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
So next time when you start feeling down smile and mentally thank him for the time you two had together and all the different things you learned while being with him. Together you both learned alot about life , love and pain. But now its time for you to move on. You are still hurting because you were comfortable with him and felt safe . You probalby are alittle scared to start another relationship too. Dont be. It took me 34 years and lots of relationships before I found the one and we have been together for 13 years without fights , harsh words and complete trust. Look at it this way if one doesnt work out kick him to the curb and check out the next one in line. You cant love someone else and expect them to love you back if you cant love yourself. After any break up the one that gets all depressed it the one that ends up looking stupid. Wouldnt you rather someday for your x to see you with a kick *** life and no hang up or do you want him to see you all laying in the dirt at his feet.? Dont try to force yourself to go out on dates and all that either just be you and do what you like to do and when you least expect it some guy will pop into your life and rock your world and you'll quickly forget the x and probably want to kick yourself in the rear for being so depressed for so long. There is always someone out there better than what you already had. There are also some that are worse so keep your eyes open. Dont be to quick to give up your heart either and dont except second best. Wait for thee one. Good luck and have fun.

What you are going through is something that we all have gone through in life. First of all you must realize that this relationship was never meant to be. Just was not. The first thing you need to do is throw away the box with memories of him. Then the next thing you need to condition yourself to do is not think about this guy at all. You must continue to go on with your life, see other people and if this guy comes to your thought, move on to something else and do not dwell on him and the past. You must tell yourself that it is time to move on and that you are bound and determined to find someone else who is really good and compatible for you. Continue to go out with friends, continue to do the female things like shopping, clubbing and going to movies. Keep busy and active and the more you do this sooner or later your infatuation with this individual will wear off. Don't worry everyone gets off things and deals with things in a different way. One thing I truly have noticed is that females wear their emotions on their sleeves. Take your feelings and emotions off your sleeves and move forward, think positive about life and I promise if you pray to "God" to help you with this, he will help you and also ask him to send you the right person, he will. Things in life happen sometimes for the most unusual reason. Evidently you know that this relationship was not meant for you or for him. Move on and whatever you do, do not cry anymore tears. Really be strong and take these suggestions and you will be fine.

Honestly, there isnt a solution to this love... perhaps this is the guy that you're always going to love no matter what.
I moved in with my boyfriend of 1 year this past Nov. and guess whaT??? I still think of someone I "dated" ... I don't think I will ever be completely over him.... time has passed and there isnt one day that I dont think of him.... eventually you will meet someone who replaces him but he will always hold a special place deep within you...
Men and women share different feelings... it could be that he feels the same way but him being a man can not show his real emotions.
Good luck... if it's meant to be... no matter what you do will be!!!

You're different people. That's why it's easier for some than others.
You really have tried everything anyone would suggest. You may want to look into alternative methods like psychotherapy, or hypnosis. Some of that stuff has really worked for people.

How do you know that he's gotten over you? You said you haven't talked in a long time. It took me a very long time to get over my ex and we didn't talk as soon as we realized it was never going to be. Sounds like you probably won't get over him until someone else sweeps you off your feet.

I just read your subject line, not your post (sorry) but you'll get over him when you choose to do so. Evaluate why you won't allow yourself to let go and move on...what benefit are you getting from it?
It's up to you to make the choice to let go...you haven't gotten over him because you haven't chosen to do so yet.
