The Christian bible is preliminary information only. It is necessary for even the unintelligent to be guided toward God, and the bible fulfills this function. When one is advanced enough to seek a more complete understanding, one turns to the vedas, wherein one can study advanced knowledge of all aspects of life, including science, astronomy, medicine, mathematics, philosophy, nature, and spirituality. You can see by the answers given thus far that biblical knowledge, as incomplete as it is, is the best text suited for a certain class of individuals.

So because Carl Sagan said a good word about a Hindu quote, I should give up being christian?
You may wish to examine the Genesis account more closely.
Genesis 1:2 indicates the materials for making the earth were already exisiting BEFORE Genesis begins.
Plus, do not assume the word 'day' in Genesis is of 24 hours.
We speak of Hitler's day.
Are we referring to 24 hours?
An old timer will say: "In my day ....."
Is he referring to 24 hours?
There is no contradiction between Genesis and your quote.

Dear Friend,
Cult-. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
A cult has to have a human leader, since our king and saviour is Jesus Christ we do not qualify as a cult. Neither do Christians live outside of conventional society, neither are we unconventional?
I am not quite sure how we could be called a cult, we Worship the one true god and love our fellow man.
God Bless

Chirstianity is not about genesis - listen to the name - it is about Christ.
It is inconsequential to christians if the earth took a billion years to be made or a second - Christian care about eternal life, the life beyond this world, about being moral, good people and following the tecahings of Jesus Christ
Christians don't care about oxen tied to donkeys, Christians care about love your neighbour as yourself and the love the lord your god with all your strength and with all your soul. if you wish to belittle christianity you should attack this core belief - and if you could mount a realistic attack on this belief i would have to say you are God - because this tenet of faith is perfect, turn the other cheek friend
also - how can you praise hinduism and mock christianity. hindu's have blue cow gods - that is well dumb, muslims face a black stone from God's throne (huh??) - what is individual about christianity has changed the world

btw: "Cult-. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.

isn't jesus the human manifestation of god? isn't that why he was born, so he could be sacrificed? i thought that was the whole selling point of the holy trinity. also, jesus was totally a charasmatic leader. W00T!

They cannot get rid of their religion! These people need someone to blame--Satan--for their own indescretions and ineptitude. If there were no God there'd be no Satan. This is their crutch, they'd rather die than have to face the fact that they are solely responsible for their actions. Not Satan. Besides, it's a blast gettin' them all riled up!
