I recently dyed my hair black and I didn't get the results I'd hoped for. Instead its too dark, particularly at the bottom. Is there anything I can do to "at least" soften this up? Or perhaps a speedier way other than shampooing every day to lighten it?

Well, put baking soda in your shampoo to start with, it'll help soften the color.

Secondly, you could try asking a stylist about gettin dark highlights (that are still lighter than your current color) to soften the look, but the color may not show up at all.

first of all black is dark.....second if you did it at home, then i am assuming it was with a box color from a super market or drugstore, and with those you can never be sure that you are actually getting what is on the box. most boxes are not sealed so cruel kids can switch the colors around..... its happened to a few people i know. and third if the ends were already colored (even a different color) then color on color will get darker. so whatever you do don't add any more color to alter what you already have. call your local salons and ask them if they do soap caps (this may be dependent on how long ago you colored it) or another lightner that won't actually remove the color just give it a softer appearance. GL, and may I suggest in the future you seek professional advice before you color..... in the long run its much less expensive on your pockets. Most stylists charge considerable to fix other mistakes.

I wouldn't put any other product on it unless it is a non permanent color which won't change it much, It will soften soon, color doesn't last that long. It is just a shock to you right now, give it a few weeks and see. Remember that color is always darker than the box says and if it is ashe it will be darker, /.golden will have reddish highlights and of course blonde it blonde with red highlights unless it is a lifting color. good lcuk. You can try a rinse out color to alter the shade a little but I would just leave it alone.

with some washes...the color will fade....you can also go to a salon and ask for some subtle hightlights to be put in so that it downplays the black's intensity.

Believe it or not if you wash your hair with dishwasher detergent (liquid not the granular) it will lighten it.
Try it once and see you may need more than one application.

go to a pro and have them lift your color. don't try to do it yourself, you don't want to make it worse than it already is.
