If you knew that at any time you could be feeling much better, wouldnt you want to? I think that is the main reason for staying on drugs long term. Because at any time you can escape reality and just feel good for a little bit. And for teenagers I assume it is usually a social thing at first. You go to a party and see people getting high and having fun and decide to try them yourself. After awhile you forget how to interact in groups without the drugs. Its easier to get into than most people think. And one day you wake up and realize you have become exactly what they said you would be.

Michelle, the simple answer is in your question. "to feel better". Teens do drugs for many reasons. I believe peer pressure or acceptance is a strong reason.

Of course a core possibility is that we get taught early in life by the living examples through our parents and those whom we have the most contact with early in life are the most significant.

A lot of us see by how many of us act that happiness is not abundant. I believe that this is so because of erroneous information that has been passed down through the ages and a lot of it is based on religion and that is the topic of many of the questions here.

I could go on about that, but will refrain for simplicities sake.

My best suggestion is for those who wish to seek happiness without Drugs or Dogma try a look-see at this web-site:

Teens do it just because they feel brave or stronger or macho. . .All the others I guess do it just because they need to escape from the real word.Everyone has got his/hers skills to cope with life but not anybody can manage it well. For some of us,a lot I would say, drugs represent a way to do it.
But unfortunately,as soon as the effect wears off,the real word and real life punctually show up again.

People take drugs to feel good or better then they are in there current situation, now some people especially teenagers are stupid,so they want to try it,once they try it most of them become addicted.some teenagers get lot money from there parents, and they dont know what to do with and drugs becomes there hobbies.

people do this because of the chemicals in the drugs...they can cause a release of certain other chemicals that are calming or even pleasureable...why they star though is beyond me...i think it has something to do with hearing the fact that it feels good from other people...i started smoking because it seemed like a good idea at the time... it wasn't

I believe that most of the youth has got it too good and needs stimulations. They are bored: no sports, no interests, so they use drugs gives them the emotional highs and lows they need to make life more interesting.
It's sad very sad

When I was a teen I tried them out of curiosity, I continued because I liked them. I had a lot of health problems and it numbed the pain, literally and figuratively.

I don't know, because even if they do help, real life always comes back! Better to kick the habit and concentrate on putting things right, not help them get worse

to forget the pain for a while... to just enjoy the high, and get away from everyday problems for a while. unfortunately, sometimes that is the only one, because kicking back on a couch watching tv (may be even having a beer) doesn't cut it..
temporary "get away" is very helpful sometimes... you need to realize that it doesn't get rid of problems, just makes them go away for a while, gives you time to actually relax.
