Take a look at the above site - read all the way to the bottom of the page and then think twice about any kind of oral piercing. I know many people who are having scars and tattoos removed by plastic surgeons now that they are adults - all because they made faulty decisions when they were younger. Think about why you want these things done - is it because you think it "cool"? Cool changes very quickly from one year to the next - do you really want to follow every fad?

I have a pierced tongue and have had it for seven years. As long as you go to a professional studio you should be fine. You need to make sure you take care of it during the healing stage as well. A professional knows the proper places to pierce a tongue, you do have a blood supply in your tongue, if you lift your tongue up you can see it. A professional piercer is trained in piercing and should know what they are doing. Occasionally some do get it a little crooked. I think most places have similar instructions on how to clean it, the studio I went to in Sacramento, CA gave me a little bottle of Listerine, had me dilute it with water and told me to rinse my mouth out every time I ate, drank something other than water or smoked. Mine healed just fine, I can still taste and I actually have no broken teeth. That is another problem you want to consider, a lot of people end up cracking there teeth on the ball. I would strongly suggest that after it has healed you get a shorter bar (they pierce it with a longer one because of swelling) and you need to get plastic/acrylic balls. You will end up having to replace them once in awhile, it depends on if you bite on it or if it gets unthreaded... and so on, I have to change at least one, usually the bottom about once a year, if you change the colors often and use the balls with the screw in it you may have to replace it more often. Good luck and remember you only talk funny for the first couple of days until the swelling goes down. :) Also if you go to a good piercing studio they may have you come in and get a replacement shorter barbell once your tongue is healed, the one I went to did.

Yes, there are wellness issues that might come up for the reason that of having your tonunge pierced. However, for those who move to a legitimate piercer you should not have any disorders. They are instructor to seem for veins on your tongue. I have had my tongue pierced four occasions, and I have had no disorders, different then swelling for the duration of the primary week (that is average), and perhaps getting a bit sore. Just keep on with delicate meals (I ate plenty of child meals, lol), and take a few advil to lower swelling, the whole lot will have to be quality.

One of my students pierced her tongue. It swelled up so badly, it filled her mouth and blocked her throat. So, she was taken to the emergency room. I suppose it may not affect some people, but for others it certainly can cause multiple problems. I imagine the pierced object hitting against teeth is not too good for the tooth enamel.

A major problem with facial piercings (tongue, chin) is that the piercing is bad for your teeth. The piercing hits against your teeth and recedes your gum line. So dont get one in your tongue or chin. If you really want a piercing get it in your ears. That is the safest place for one.

CANDY,
RPPJ HAS AN EXCELLENT SOURCE OF INFO YOU SHOULD SEE.
WHEN YOU'RE 30 OR 40 YOU WILL LOOK BACK AND SAY TO YOURSELF, "WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING."
IF, YOU STILL WANT THE PIERCING WAIT TILL YOU'RE 21 TO GET IT. MAYBE BY THAT TIME YOU WILL GROW PAST THIS SILLY PHASE.
