Can any church people explain this seeming discrepancy?

He was indeed both, he was first and foremost the son of God, he was also the son of man being born of a virgin.
I believe the son of man is referring to Mary (man or rather mankind)Hope this helps and God Bless You...Grandma

the son of man in which you are speaking is a metaphor. jesus came here to earth to save people. he is doing his work for US (man). therefore he is known as the son of man.
