Cars like corvettes and porsche or mustang GT are cop magnets. They pull these cars over hoping to find narcotics so they can seize the car and sell it and keep the proceeds for their agency to buy more police stuff with.

Police officers don't stop cars unless they have probable cause. Your car (or anyone else's car) is not worth losing their house in a potential lawsuit. Some agencies in California don't even do seizures like you're talking about. Fact of the matter is, if you're obeying the rules of the road, you won't get pulled over.

As for the comment that police pull people over simply because of their race, think about this. When you drive at night, can you tell what race the person in front of you is? Even from 2-3 car lengths away? It's easier for people to believe that the police pulled them over because they are (insert race, sex, etc. here) then because they did something wrong.

As an officer I first must tell the one "blogger" that term is "Probable Cause" not "probably cause."

Secondly, after being in law enforcement over 30 years...I've always insured there was probable cause to stop a vehicle. By NOT doing so is opening myself and my department to lawsuits which can be easily avoided simply by insuring my standards of honesty, integrity, and professionalism are above reproach! It doesn't matter if you drive a BMW or a moped....I don't target any specific type vehicle.

To seize a vehicle...one must first insure the vehicle is a forfeitable asset being used for illegal gain. If I waited around for that specific Porsche, Mustang, Corvette, or other "cop magnet," I'd be waiting all shift long and still never find one.

As for those who think they've been stopped for their ethnic background...let me put it this way. One such stop was where an individual complained that he was stopped because of his ethnicity. My argument with this comment is simply....while your car is coming towards my car at 110mph (each vehicle traveling 55mph) at 2:00AM with your high beams directed towards me....how do I determine your ethnic background before you're stopped? You just got stopped because you failed to dim your highbeams to on-coming traffic....kinda dumb to think otherwise doncha think?

Once people realize it's not about ethnic background....but the violators inability to admit when they've broken the law....things such as this question alleging illegal stops will discontinue! It's sad when people trump up all these stories about law enforcement just to sensationalize their own shady history!

Thanks for the 2 points!

Police have to have PC to make a stop, and in some (like I said some) cases they might make some PC up for the traffic stop. Now I don't want to get cops out there pissed, but you know I am right. It also depends on the cities, and if there is a major drug route in your city. But there are hundreds of ways to get PC, but my 4 legged friend is never wrong, and has never lost a court case, and has never lost a fleeing suspect on foot, and I am actually thinking of having his teeth implanted with titianum teeth,,for the shiny simle of course.......but yes, police need PC,,,,,

LOL...The Mustang GT (in comparison) is not an "expensive" car.
The police usually watch the "sports" cars more because they are usually the ones with the heavy foot.

I agree with Roger N I don't think its a racial issue. Its simply statistics. "Muscle cars" tend to be driven faster. They are also the car of choice for people of any race dealing in illegal substances in most areas.

Yes. Police make up probably cause all the time. And they don't just stop black people. They love to stop white men.

Negative....we run the plate random and if they r clean we let them go unless it appears to us that they seem to be driving at an excessive rate of speed. Then we stop them.
