Try a simple arch structure to support the flat road bed. The arch will distribute the weight in the center of the bridge to the main supports on either side this will work best if you have access to large boards.

A slightly more complicated model, I would try making support trusses, incorporating triangle structures will help to distribute the load, this will work better if you are using Popsicle sticks for the wooden elements. In fact the cardboard is a perfect example of the structural strength of triangles it's basically just three pieces of paper but the corrugation introduces triangles which give it a lot of strength.
