..for a sunset? For color itself, fragrance, the feeling of warmth, healthy children? Imagination, love, the pleasure of meaningful activity? The intricate balance of the universe that makes life possible?

G. K. Chesterton wrote, "If my children wake up on Christmas morning and have someone to thank for putting candy in their stocking, have I no one to thank for putting two feet in mine?"

An atheist friend of mine once, in a moment of vulnerability, confessed to praying sometimes, saying thanks..."just in case."

When what some call a universe birthed by randomness can afford such wonder, such joy... such order and appropriateness, how can they say those things really contribute toward the raw bottom line of survival and reproduction?

Romans 1:18 tells us the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.

For his invisible attributes, namely his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived ever since the creation of the world, in the things that are made. So they are without excuse.

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God, or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their hearts were darkened.

I thank God for creating the sunsets, for being able to see color, to enjoy warmth, healthy neices and nephews, for giving me an imagination. For song and singing over me....for giving me someone to sing with....joy in each new day. the job that is yet to come. For living in a warm place, for a car that runs.

I have so much to thank the Lord for, I can't even begin to name everything I'm thankful for.

That is a very sweet notion, but everything is either a product of human response to stimuli or a gathering of matter under the influence of heat and pressure.

A measure of faith is given to every man, its like monopoly when they give you 200 dollars to set you off. Atheist expend more energy struggling against the obvious. I wouls say save yourself a lifetime of needless bickering, and get with that which can cleanse your soul, and save your spirit.

I can feel deep appreciation for beauty and good fortune without necessarily needing to attribute it to a supernatural cause.

That's all very nice but it's the kind of mawkish sentimentality that turns me away from Christianity. It's self delusion.
