The thing with diets is that most people think that the less you eat the more you will loose. This is false information and is infact the opposite. You're wife must make sure she eats breakfast, wholemeal toast, wholemeal fruit and nut muesli, bran flakes something like this. For lunch a big salad with ham or chicken or if a sit down salad is too much with baby, stuff a pitta bread with some salad leaves and chicken or ham etc. For evening meal lots of steamed veggies with fish or again chicken or a tomato pasta. And for mid day snacks fruit or crispbreads with reduced fat soft cheese or cottage cheese.

I would say plenty of excessive but she will have all this with baby, still, pop baby in pram and take off for a walk!

I used to slim via Weight watcher (fantastic) and I found I ate more than I did when I was eating rubbish.

The key is not dieting but changing the way you eat, it has to be healthy all the way but tell her to pick one day fo the week where she can eat whatever she wants, my day used to be Sunday!!

Good luck and congrats on new baby

Trying to go on a diet while lactating (producing milk) is not a good idea. But certainly she can watch what she eats for the sake of the baby. Start the exercise routine as soon as able.

All this will help her lose weight. But do not go on a strict diet.

Congrats!! after my kids i wanted to lose baby lbs also...lots of posts say basic stuff like eat less exercise more...count calories...but from my experience a new mom doesnt have much time for meetings, keeping food record and counting calories so heres what i did that worked... DRINK LOTS OF WATER, special k or some other lowfat high fiber cereal for breakfast (like rasin bran or cheerios---remember EAT Breakfast jumpstarts your metabolism in the morning) then for lunch subway sandwhich (i copied my favorite lowfat subs from subway and made them from home alot...and had baked lays and fruit to go with it) and for dinner i ate healthy request campbells soups or any other low sodium healthy version soup...(warm for the tummy and fills you up...low calories and TONS of varieties among the different brands! You dont have to eat the same one over and over) and when shes not too tired and too busy watch the baby for her and let her go for walks or workouts (although i used to turn my housecleaning into workouts by turning on quickpaced music and flexing my muscles when i cleaned like flexing arm muscles when scrubbing floors and flexing leg muscles when vaccuming-- didnt have alot of time for "formal workouts" or trips to the gym!) Wishing you the best of luck with your new addition and good luck to your wife! Hope this helps a bit! Worked for me i saw results within a month or two!

First it takes time. Slowly getting into exercise, and healthy eating help. It can take up to a year for her to reclaim her body. I am a big fan of Weight Watchers.

A lot of women who have had babies in my office are on weight watchers, and it works. It's very simple, and even nursing mothers can do it.
