When I was a teen, I didn't want to go to school, and skipped alot. My father came over (divorced parents) and sat me down and said if I didn't straighten up, and get to school, I was being put into a school for troubled kids, and I'd have to live there! Long story short, I earned my Master's degree in 2004, and have a wonderful job I could never have had without a good education.

It does work. My aunt was all messed up on drugs and she lost her house so she moved in with her son and her son had enough and so he kicked her out and no one else in our family would help her so she finally got her life back together.
