Possibly the ink cartrige is leaking. Change it out, do a thorough cleaning and see if it's any better. Printers get dusty inside, a lot more than people realize. The dust can turn to mud if it gets near oil or ink. Open the cover and carefully wipe it out with a cloth or napkin that doesn't have a lot of lint. Use Q-tips too. Ink is water soluble so use water or Windex as your solvent. Finish with a vacuum cleaning. I think you can fix this yourself, you have as many fingers as some high priced tech.

probably the ink cartridge, or the ink dispenser. You can check your fax machine manual to properly open the fax machine, and see what to do, i also recommend going to the manufacturer's website and find a troubleshooting page. they should be able to supply you with a more in detail, solution to your problem.
