Yes you can. Mine is unplugged. They check the line usually after a couple of months of you joining Sky. you will need to plug it in if you ever need to contact them about a problem you have though. Also, it is a good idea to plug it in overnight every so often as that is how Sky updates your digibox.
If Sky ever try and access your digibox and they cant because your unplugged, they will write you a letter asking you to re connect.

No don't UN plug it I have had the sky plus digital box for19 months and they are hounding me
they have threatened to charge me a extra £33 a month for the bedroom so i cancelled it up stairs .
They are scaring my mother even though she has also cancelled it upstairs they have still charged her £66 for her bedrooms
So think again I thought the contract was for a year but its not maybe its different if you haven`t got it upstairs as well but id look closely at the small print

You are contracted to have your box linked to the phone line for the first 12 months. but you can unplug it if you like

Yes I unplugged mine 10 mins after the engineer left and I haven't had any problems two years ago

You should have it connected for 12 months, but mines been disconnected since we moved, no phone socket near the Sky box.

Yeah. It cuts off some of the interactive stuff and is breaking your contract but I have never heard of anyone having problems. i haven't unplugged mine for over two years.

no! when you sign up to sky you have a 12 month contract with them, if you take the phone line out, they can impose a fine in breach of contract, but hey!....lots of people do it, and say they are decorating and stuff, our the phone line is down, but that ones up to you.
