If people can convert, which is basically changing their mind, doesn't it undermine religion as being about a true faith in your god.

How can you believe in one god and then decide for whatever reason that you now don't believe in that god and you wish to worship another?

Doesn't it highlight the hypocracy of religion and its believers?

Every religions believe in one God and it's the same God.... Just the names are different.. Like God and Allah... if a person wants to change his/her religion then its up to him/her... it's actually believing to a different Prophet... Like Jesus or Mohammed... if you read the holly books they all open to the same door... There is only one God and he's allmighty... he can hear and see you... he's 7 steps below the ground and he's 7 steps above the sky..Ifı you believe in God then it's not important which religion you follow... The important thing is to respect to the different believes and thoughts... If we learn to do that the world can be a better place to live in...

Most religions are based on worshipping God as our creator. If someone chooses to change religions they are not worshipping a different God, they are worshipping the same God but in a different way.

They reason people convert is that they have never come into a relationship with God.
They are still looking to fill that empty place in their heart that only God can fill.
Instead of seeking God they listen to what men are saying and follow every wind of doctrine, and who knows what else, trying to get to God when he is right in front of them and will save their souls and give direction.
They difficulty for non-believers is that so many different religeons say they are th only one that is right. Where do you turn?
What I know is that you cannot make someone believe as you believe. They have to look toward God for guidance.
If they will sincerly look to God, and know that they are following his will, they will seek his church and establish themselves there.
What we need to do is the seek the salvation of family and neoghbors. Then to direct them to prayer and guidance from God. If they will be established on the "Rock" they will never turn away.

In addition to what the first poster says, imagine if you are born into a family of say, Muslims, and once you are born into a family of a certain religion then you are expected to take on that religion too. So say a muslim doesn't have any knowledge of another faith bar his own, then one day starts reading into Christianity and wishes to convert to it because he finds that the teachings are better etc, then no one can hardly call him hypocritical can they?

what would Jesus say, He would say, I am the way the truth and the life, No-one come to the Father except through me...
Repent of false worship and turn back to the one true God..

Isa 45:18 For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it {and} did not create it a waste place, {but} formed it to be inhabited), "I am the LORD, and there is none else.

The Bible does say that there will be some who depart from the faith...

1Tim 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; .

If the change is between the three top religions, they follow the same God but have different names for it. Islam for example talks about Adam, Eve, Moses and even Jesus in Koran. So basically the same God but slightly different stories.

Yet man professes to belong to a particular type of faith with reference to particular time and circumstance and thus claims to be a Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist or any other sect. Such designations are non-sanatana-dharma. A Hindu may change his faith to become a Muslim, or a Muslim may change his faith to become a Hindu, or a Christian may change his faith and so on. But in all circumstances the change of religious faith does not effect the eternal occupation of rendering service to others. The Hindu, Muslim or Christian in all circumstances is servant of someone. Thus, to profess a particular type of sect is not to profess one’s sanatana-dharma. The rendering of service is sanatana-dharma.

Factually we are related to the Supreme Lord in service. The Supreme Lord is the supreme enjoyer, and we living entities are His servitors. We are created for His enjoyment, and if we participate in that eternal enjoyment with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, we become happy. We cannot become happy otherwise. It is not possible to be happy independently, just as no one part of the body can be happy without cooperating with the stomach. It is not possible for the living entity to be happy without rendering transcendental loving service unto the Supreme Lord.
From Introduction to Bhagavad-gita-As-It-Is, by A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of ISKCON.

Sanatana Dharma or the eternal religion based on the Vedas, eternal but in written format-5000 years back
Judaism as is seen today - 4500 years back
Buddhism with the advent of Lord Buddha - 2500 years
Jainism around the same period as that of Buddhism
Christianity with the birth of Lord Jesus Christ- 2000 years
Islam with the birth of ProphetMohammed(pbuh) - 1300 years

So the conclusion is that those who follow a religious system which is ranging from 1300 years old to 5000 years old keep changing their faith from so-called Hinduism to Christianity or Islam to Chrstian or Christian to Islam etc... whereas the Sanatana dhrma(eternal relgion) of the soul remains the same.
