I have a boyfriend who graduated already and I'm not there yet. He blew off school and so I'm left trying to go where my heart desires.... New York. I've always had the desire to go to somewhere far away from louisiana.. He is not even doing anything with his life... he works at the dollar store..... What should I do?

ARE YOU SERIOUS!? I cannot believe a girl from the Big Easy will even contemplate a guy like this... If you know things will go downhill.. DON'T FOLLOW.
I am a small town where everyone is related to someone in lower LA. & from the get-go; I knew I was NOT meant for LA. I knew I was going to get outta there one day & when I fell for a guy that his main ambition was to work on the boats for his life I thought to myself;
Me..military..officer material..career..retirement.
Him..smelling like the boats..getting hurt on a boat..workman's comp..trying to make ends meet..lots of babies..no.
If you know that youre "Big Apple" material instead of "Big Easy" material...pack your sh!t & go. Don't let some guy who doesnt want to better himself through education & more; hold you back.
You should let him go & let yourself go to NY.

Well, I've never been to Lousianna but I live really close to New York and I can tell you that it's true that it can be a little rough living there (i.e. expensive) but it's a great city with a lot of opportunity for anybody's who's smart and willing to work hard. I love that city, seriously.

If you don't want to leave the bf see if you can get the boy to go with you, even for a little while so you can try it out. Rent's expensive and if you can bring a roomate with you so much the better. If he really cares he'll follow you anywhere. If not, then don't redirect your future for someone you're not going to be with that long anyway.

If New York means that much to you....go. If your boyfriend loves you he'll follow. If he doesn't have a major/important job where you live, then it wouldn't be too rough on him to go with you. He can find some other Dollar Store job or janitor job or fast food or coffee shop job in New York. Tell him it's been fun but you need to make a life for yourself away from Louisiana and if he wants to join you in New York he's more than welcome. But don't let him drag you down and keep you where you don't want to be. Stand up for yourself and do what you want to do. WOMAN POWER!!!

Go to New York. Do you really want to spend your life with the guy from the dollar store? I mean in 3 years if he works really hard and adds all the items up correctly that people buy and works overtime and brown noses, he might make assistant manager, then manager, then he's pulling down like $25k a year. Follow your dreams.

Bay-girl, don't do it for him.
Seriously, if you know his life is going nowhere, works at the Dollar Store, and dropped out of school - the signs are there.
Listen, this is coming from a guy....he's lost right now and has no direction or purpose.
What will happen is you will sacrifice your happiness, just to move away.
I'm from NY and it is NOT somewhere you should go to live WITHOUT a good support system - THERE.
NY will always be there, so don't press yourself about it.
As far as he's concerned, I think you should distance yourself because if he hasn't found himself, you'll find him leechin' off you - send him money, etc...TRUST ME.
There was a reason he dropped out of school - failure to commit...Read the signs, Bay-girl!

One love...
