If you would have peace, Prepare for war. it's that simple they have ensured since the Day of Napolean that their Armed Services are some of if not the best in the world. And Since then they have not been Engaged in a war.

So they can protect their banking system. Helvetian banking has a long tradition of elitism and security. So how long before the rest of the world gets sick of there being a place to hide all the money that drug-traffickers, corrupt politicians, embezzlers and other thieves steal from everyone. William Gibson theorized that the next Great War would be with the banks. If that’s the case, the Swiss better start stockpiling now.

Qui desidarat pacem praeparet bellum. There is a historical dislike of Austrian domination (think Wilhelm Tell) and they've been mighty near to some ugly fighting in the last half of the 19th and first half of the 20th.

Well, it's kept Germany, Austro-Hungary, Italy out for the last 100 plus years !!
Toured Switzerland, and Dad pointed out the tank-traps, bunkers, highway airports... and the reserves tearing down an old hotel brick-by-brick with hand tools (all their rifles stacked in the parking lot).

They don't get invaded because they do have a decent army, waiting until you are invaded is no good.

They fear Germany is going to turn on them. Switzerland even converted highways into landing strips and planted bombs on the bridges leading into germany.
