I watched a documentry last night on Channel 4(UK) arguing that religous communities should be more concerned about the enviroment and global warming . As a Christian i believe we should be as the world belongs to God and we are its stewards . What do you think?

I agree. But I can't just say that can I? I have to explain why because it seems the religious people answering are just saying "I agree" and the atheists are simply saying "there is no God".

To say there is no God does not excuse the religious communities from action to fight the effects and causes of global warming. It merely seeks to undermine their faith which is, frankly, unhelpful.

To just say "I agree" doesn't actually promise any personal commitment to changing the situation, or indeed making the religious communities of which we are a part sit up and take notice.

I am a Catholic, I belong to one of the largest faith communities world wide. I know that if the Catholic church was mobilised into action against climate change it could make a massive difference. I'm prepared to challenge the pre-conceptions people have about green issues. I am not a tree-hugging hippy, I'm a realist and I understand that unless we all act together, this wonderful creation will slowly fade away and be a memory.

I think rather than just agreeing with you the religious people should be saying - I agree and here's what I'm doing now to combat climate change.

I am a vegan, I use energy efficient lightbulbs, I never leave my television on standby, I have not flown anywhere for 8 years.

That's just a few of the things I'm doing - let's see people of faith making a stand and saying, here's where I'm at with this, where can we go from here?

Sorry, a bit long winded maybe, but I felt it needed to be said.

If there is a God (which I personally doubt) surely he would supposedly have the power to save the planet. If he has the power why doesn't he use it? If he is all-powerful and compassionate why is allowing the effects of global warming to kill people? Come on you christians, wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!!

It makes common sense, but does the Christian God not just say have faith and trust in him and all will be okay. I'm not aware of Green demands.

Christians do need to be more environmentalist.

This earth is made by God, what a blessing he has given us! We should be taking care of it.
