When we go to NYC, we stay in Lyndhurst, NJ..
That's not very far from your stadium.. and I think the bus runs right over there..
Good luck!

No matter where you stay, if you can get to Manhattan, you can get to Yankee Stadium easily by subway. The D and 4-trains both stop there, and it's just a short ride (15 minutes or so) from Midtown. The subway runs fairly frequently all night long, so you'll have no problem getting to or from the stadium, no matter where you stay.
The cheapest options are generally in Queens or New Jersey. If you're staying in Queens, make sure there's a subway stop nearby. If there is, it will be easy to get to and from anywhere you want to go. I've stayed at the Comfort Inn--Briarwood, which is just a couple of blocks from two different subway stations. There are lots of other chains in Jamaica, Flushing, and Long Island City that are all quite convenient to the subway.
In New Jersey, you'll want to make sure you're near an NJ Transit train station. There are tons of these all over northern New Jersey, but many of the hotels aren't really all that convenient to them. If you are near a train station, you can count on trains running hourly during the day and every 2 -3 hours until the wee hours. The same goes of White Plains, where you'll want to make sure you're near a Metro North commuter train station.

Best bet is to stay near the bigger NJ Transit stations. Metro Park has a Hilton within walking distance to the station, and theres a Sheraton about a mile and a half away that I believe offers free shuttle service to the station.
For $12.50 round trip and about a 40 minute train ride your in NY Penn. Walk across across the street and one block down, and pick up the uptown D train (one way trip = $2.00), to the 161st and River Avenue stop, which usually takes about 15 minutes, and your at Yankee Stadium. Enjoy the game!

Your best bet is to stay in Manhattan. The 4 train (Lexington ave. subway), although it will be crowded on a game night, can get you to and from the game in about 20mins (for $2 each way) if you stay in midtown/on the east side (east of Park ave.).
Staying in NJ or Westchester will most likely make the commute to and from much longer and more expensive.

You have buses and trains that run where Yankee Stadium is. As for where to stay I think White Plains would be best.

i am going to end you precise there, because there is no such element as an inexpensive inn in circumstances sq.. The D or the 4 subway strains are the perfect thoughts to/from Yankee Stadium (trust me, i'm a wide fan, and as you could locate a baseball properly contributor on Y!A).

Try to find Hotels Near Herland Square and from there it would be easier to get B or D train to the game.
