He feels that the best thing for us to do is call it quits now instead of waiting until he leaves at the end of the year, so that I won't feel worse. I agreed at first, but now I feel that we should try to spend as much time together as possible and also try to figure out some things that we can do to stay together. What can/should I do?

Seems to me like he is ready to move on, and I think you should do the same. I know that it's going to hurt, but in the long run you will be better off. No sense in fighting for a relationship when the other person is obviously ready to get on with their life. Long distance relationships can work, for some people, but in my opinion they aren't worth it. It's a real hassle, as I know from personal experience. You never get to see the person, you start to get lonely, blah blah blah. I think it would be different if you two were really committed, but it's apparent that he isn't.

Stay friends with him, though. No sense in completely cutting ties with a person if there is no ill-will between you two. You never know when things could spark back up in the future.

For the time being, cut your losses and move on.

Good luck!

He is right. Spending more time now only to end it once he leaves is only going to make it worse for you. You should respect his decision. Really, this makes a lot of sense. I went through the same thing with my girlfriend. The exact same thing. I was firm and didn't waver, and I ended up much happier for it. They all went on to other schools and other walks of life and didn't want to be tied down either. Hey, if you leave it on good terms now, maybe one day you see each other at a bar and rekindle something, but you need to let him go do his thing at school or he will end up resenting you.

Sounds like he is ready to break it off.....
Cool it and see if he misses you - Agree to end and see what happens - if he loves you he will be back!
The sooner you find out if he really wants you the better - then you can move on too!

TJ
This guy is done with you and wants to date other girls. You are going to have to face facts...he has all the opportunity to see you and is choosing not to. It is unfortunate but you need to move on.
