You sound like a fashion victim. Honestly, how many pairs of shoes and purses do you actually need? Why not pick your favorite 10 pairs of shoes and your 5 favorite purses and take the rest to the goodwill. Having too much "stuff" isn't always the best thing anyway.
Spend money on making the place look "chic" and less on shoes and purses...try it!

I understand the shoe and bag issue, and no one can expect you to cut back!!
What worked for me... I have a shoe rack I got at bed bath and beyond that I have on the back of my bedroom door, so it is hidden from guest, I use that for the shoes I wear more frequently, and then for the shoes that I don't wear, they are in shoe boxes, labeled underneath my bed. As for my bags, they go in a dresser drawer. I have a million little clutches, so they are all pretty much in there. The larger ones that don't fit in there are hanging in the closet.
It works for me, and I will never cut back! although when it is out of style, I do get rid of it.

You can purchase a shelf unit that you put together yourself. It takes very little space and it is wide enough for several pairs of shoes and it is a tall as six foot. I have folded sweat shirts and sweaters in mine, but shoes and purses would also fit nicely. Mine is set in the corner of the room. You could also reserve one shelf for your clock radio or alarm clock. I bought two of these shelves and stacked them on top of each other making them around 6 feet tall. Below is Targets offering of the shelves

Ok and I bet you only wear one pair at a time :-). Find some storage boxes and put the ones you dont wear in them and put them under the bed.
If you cant do that, just get rid of the ones you havent worn in the last 6mths, cause they are probably out of fashion anyway.

They do make shoe racks that can be mounted on the backs of doors. Realistically though, you probably have to cut back to the shoes and bags you use often.
Here's a link to a door shoe rack:

Measure your closets. How wide and how deep. Draw a sketch of each one and go to Home Depot. They have a huge selection of clost organizers.
