Yes, if one of your cats would happen to catch and kill one of the mice that's been poisoned your cat could become very ill or die from the poison.
Traps would be a better way to go.
Good Luck

If the cat(s) eat a mouse which dined on Decon it will poison the cat(s). Best to wait until the weather improves and purchase a humane trap designed for small critters or just use a conventional mousetrap if you want to kill the mice. A mousetrap will be fatal. The mice are in the attic,so just set the traps up there and the cats will not be hurt.

I worked in pest control. There is no bait out there that makes mice thirsty. It will dry them out but not make them thirsty, even though tons of companies will tell you that. But the chances of a mouse dying in your house is just as great if it died naturally and that stuff doesn't work automatically. So you have a very slim chance of a dead mouse in your house....and depending upon where it's at, you may never know it.
? on decon.....it is little pellets so mice could possibly hord it elsewhere. I have seen cases where they will take pellets and place them in places they assume to be safe, even to an unworn shoe in a house. You can get bait blocks at a hardware store that work better. Just put in areas the cat can't get to. If the cat gets a mouse that eats decon or any other bait it won't effect it......the cat would have to eat over a dozen mice at one time that have eaten poison bait for it to effect him. It just is not an issue. And most bait is used at a very low concentration.... like .005%
If you want to know more about poison in baits, you can read up online on material safety data sheets regarding anticoagulants (the posion used in many baits.) Here is one I've used alot for larger problems and it's specs.

Yes, eating a poisoned mouse may harm your cat. Decon causes mice to die slowly and painfully from internal bleeding. It can take up to a week for them to die, and then they smell as they rot behind your walls. Please consider a more humane alternative.
I've had great success with this live trap in my house:
http://veganstore.com/index.html?stocknumber=266
It’s also available for $2 cheaper here (although I prefer to buy it from the other place since I’m not a big fan of PETA):
https://www.petacatalog.org/prodinfo.asp?number=HP200
I've caught over a dozen mice with it so far and it can be used over and over indefinitely. Or, you can try making the free homemade humane trap described here:
http://www.helpinganimals.com/wildlife_livingWithMice.asp
If you do live trap mice, please be sure to check the traps several times a day and release the mice promptly, approximately a mile away from your home. It is much more cruel to allow a mouse in a live trap to slowly starve to death than to kill it quickly with a snap trap. When you release the mice, do it in an area with some sheltering bushes or plants.
The absolute cruelest traps are glue traps. Mice have been known to gnaw off their own limbs and tear off their skin in an effort to escape, as they starve or dehydrate to death or suffocate in the glue. It can take three to five days for them to die.
It doesn't take much extra effort to be kind. You will feel better and so will the mice! Good luck!

I had an exterminator come to my last house when we had a mouse problem. When I asked him he said cats wouldn't touch a poisoned mouse because it would act odd and cats were very wary of oddities. That being said the cat died a year later from an unknown disease. He was 3 years old.

The cat would have to eat several mice for it to be a real problem. D-con contains blood thinners, so if the cat did enough to cause a problem it is easily treatable.
