Has anyone had a negative affect taking an antidepressant? For example I was on Lexapro last year and had to stop taking it because I ended up going crazy and very violent. Also are there any anti depressents that you have used that has had a postive affect on you. I am going to the doctor on Friday for depression and I would like to know about some of the better medications out there and the ones to avoid. You input is appreciated. Thank you

Everyone response differently to antidepressant, it all depends on your genetic make-up & how your depression manifest.
You might have to be tried on a few different ones, to see what works best for you. Does depression run in your family? If so, ask them what works best for them. This would give you a better idea what your body needs.

When I was being treated for depression I was on amitrityline...it was awful. it took away the worst of the symptoms but left me with a whole host of other. I piled on weight, was constantly drinking because I was so thirsty, felt very detached at times and very irritable. Needless to say I got off them as soon as I could. Avoid them at all costs!

I think that the first thing is to try to judge what kind of depression you have--- is it anxiety depression? Neggative thinking depression? Lack of joy depression? Becasue the answers to these questions will help your doctor. "Depression" is too much of a cathch-all phrase, it lacks any useful meaning.

welbutron is a good one. But you do know if you just stop taking and anti depressant cold turkey it will or can have psychotic effects
