Tried those online forums, useless, always to busy. I think my problem is simple, it's just that I'm to dumb to figure it out.

Some how I have changed the way the page is viewed when starting a document, or when I open an old document.

There is a character that looks like a backward "P" with two legs, and bunches of right hand pointing arrows on the page.

Can anyone tell me how to change this setting so these do not show on the page view?,

Click on Tools => Options, then click the View tab. In the Formatting Marks section, uncheck "Paragraph Marks", and any other characters that you don't want displayed on the document.

The little backward "P" is called a Paragraph Mark. There is an button at the top that also has the Paragraph Mark on it. This is the "Show/Hide" formatting button. Mine is right next to the Zoom drop down box. If you click the button it will toggle the the Paragraph Marks on and off.

You have an option turned on called "paragraph Marks' There should be a button on the toolbar that you can press to turn those off, but if you not you can go to Tools-Option under the View tab and un-check paragraph marks.
