It's your life and your liver, but if you drink your way to the cirrosis ward of the hospital don't ask for my taxes to pay for what you did to yourself.

You know what, go for it. Life is too short and with all the **** going on today we could all be dead by next week. All those people spending thousands of dollars on med school and law school trying to professionalize themselves might wake up one day when they are forty and wonder where the hell their life went. I don't know if becoming an alcoholic is the best choice, theres a lot of drawbacks to it but screw it man..do whatever floats your boat.

Hell Ya! I've been an alcoholic for 12 years now since i was 16. I love to drink beer, Whiskey, Vodka, wine - hell anything with alcohol. I got a good paying job with a lot of responsibility. Hey if you can hold life's responsibilities and not drink and drive then all the power too ya!!! It' has been 10 yrs since i have not gone 1 day without at least 6-10 drinks, and I'm healthy as an OX!

It's inspiring to see young folks following their dreams. Floating one's boat means doing whatever makes you happy. For example... if you're an alcoholic, then alcohol "floats your boat."

I'm not sure why you decided to become an alcoholic.
Before you do, why don't you go to skit row in your city and see how you have to live after you lost your job, lost your home, and family.
Go in the winter so you can get a better picture. And while you are there, perhaps you can help some of those people.
Bring some warm clothes along...and maybe a sandwich. Because if you do, then perhaps when you're there someone might have compassion on you also.

Interesting vocation! And there aren't any professional schools offering programs to help you become certified! Sure, become an alcoholic if you want a lifetime of heartache and suffering beyond your wildest imagination, if you want failed marriages, jobs, and children that you willingly produced but are too self-absorbed and drunk to take care of properly, if you want an obsession that keeps you isolated and lonely in a way you can't fathom, and if you want to lose everything, including your dignity and self-respect. Oh, and by the way, one of the greatest thrills of alcoholism is to watch your belly swell and your muscles atrophy because your liver can't flush the poison's out of your body after a while and your body can't take in any good nutrition. They say that the coma that follows is great! And, when you decide to "not take that drink", blessed be to those DT's that are waiting to come calling. Yep, becoming an alcoholic sounds wonderful!

That's like waking up one day and saying, I'd like to become a terrorist - because you are no more moral or responsible than one.......and perhaps attention seeking as well.
Most alcoholics manage to take a few people down with them as well as becoming burdens on their families/society. Hey if your lucky, some night when you get thrown in the tank, you might have a real good listener for a roomate - we'll call him BUBBA!!!!! He enjoys close bonding and water sports....
Hope the two of you will be real happy.

Why do you want to?
So you can commit suicide slowly?
So you can maybe be a drunk driver and kill someone?
So you can ruin your skin, your belly, your heart, your liver, and all your close relationships?
Every life is a gift.
Even if you were to live alone in the high mountains with no one around to harm, I'd say, "No, it's not all right." You have, as everyone does, potentially so much to give. You don't have the right to commit suicide.
Reach out, people will care for you and you'll have a great life.

I would advise against becoming an alcoholic. Try to become to addicted to something else like chocolate or sugar. Then maybe move up to coffee then cigarettes. If obsessive behavior over these items don't hurt you and are still able to live a normal life then turn to alcohol.

I don't think you should be asking if it's alright - I think you should be asking "why do I want to become an alcoholic".
Do you want to damage your liver - possibly to the point of serious illness or death? Do you want to risk killing yourself or someone else in a dui car accident? Do you want to feel lousy and hungover every morning? Do you want to get to the point where you're too messed up to go to work and function in a job? Do you want to spend your money on killing yourself slowly instead of, say, a house or traveling around the world? Do you want to meet and marry someone responsible, caring and nice? (you probably won't be able to do that if you're drunk all the time).
The majority of people who form addictions (like alcholism) spend the rest of their lives trying to stop and/or wishing they never started.
Go enjoy a couple of glasses of wine with a meal - have a martini on Friday night with friends - but don't PLEASE don't get to the point where a substance (alcohol) is the center of your life. It's a lonely existance.
