I thought about using a piece of chalk on a string to do the circle but how do i paint it while keeping the line nice and crisp and clean?

Using a smaller brush with a good chisel edge for the first time around the circle will help you keep the edge clean.

simple - draw as you did - cover the line with painters masking tape - redraw on the tape - cut away tape with x-acto knife ( perfect circle - use painters tape for crisp edge )

for the cut ( and to draw ) you can tape the knife to a straight edge ( careful not to cut into the sheet-rock ) for drawing tack it to the center and tape a pencil to it - this will give you a perfect circle without having to hold a string taunt ( and no worry about stretching )

you will find that the wider the tape the less you need - apply in a straight line and overlap as required - do not attempt to curve the tape

also if you can find one with a good adhesive some people have done this by cutting a hole in contact paper ( like fake vinyl - I've never found one that didn't bleed )

one last thing - seen it done but haven't tried it - cut a piece of plastic or other non-porous material the same radius ( curve ) as your circle ( part of it ) and use it as a edge guide while painting - this saves the taping part just move it around the circle as you paint then fill in the center - worth trying (but the guy was a pro so maybe it just looked easy )

a peice of chalk or pencil will work fine.

To keep the lines clean, uses masking tape-get the kind that's guaranteed to come off clean and easily. Tape around the outside of the circle--use small pieces so the circle doesn't end up with strait edges.

Also if that's not working, paint the main body of the circle with a large brush then carefully paint the edges with a small brush

Another technque is to uses a large peice of paper to make a stencil, cut out the inside of the circle and tape it to the wall then just paint over it

Here is how to get a perfect circle.

1. Drive a nail (smallest you can find) into the center of where you want to put your circle.
2. take a string (any string) long enough to reach half the distance of your circle. Tie a loop into the end you will put on the nail. put a slip knot on the end to put a pencil in. pull out the slip knot to get a grip on the pencil. Then draw your mark by keeping the pencil perpendicular to your line stretcted out to the end of the line. Once the two ends of your mark meet you should have a very near perfect circle.

Pull the nail. then fill with wall putty. if you keep the nail small enough you can even use white toothpaste to fill the hole. then let it dry, then smooth the surface. Then have fun painting.

Edit: At auto parts stores they have narrow tape for auto bodies. it is easy to turn radius' with tape that is about 1/8th inch wide or 3/16th inch wide. If I recall it is for pin-striping a car.

tape, or use a resist of some kind, but you still have to get that on perfect. How precise do you need to be, not sure any hand painting is or should be perfectly perfect.
