They are extremely rare events and only are done if the situation hasn't been resolved through doctors and medications. A lot of so called events probably 99%, are self induced or just part of mental illness so the Church wants all avenues explored before stepping into the situation.

I don't believe most happen as the movies show. There are some. I have been involved in some of this. You just use your authority and command them out.
