We read questions, we give answers. Surely at the end, you will get a good, general view of what the wider population actually think. For example - I was just reading a question on 'Benefits being stopped for immigrants who do not know English' Almost every single answer agreed that we should stop benefits for immigrants that do not know English. (This is just one example and this question should not be answered again here!)

It seems that these politicians who make laws and agree things without the input of the majority thought train have their heads up their ar ses and do not seem to really know (or care)what the population thinks!

I think we should have a direct line to our politicians and should constantly give them the results of questions asked and what the best answers are -- especially for questions that affect National Security. Maybe we could convince Yahoo to have someone compile the questions and answers and make a poll site for politicians to measure public interest and public opinion? Maybe keep the topics and then use common thread expressions like:
Should immigrants be denied benefits if they can't speak English? Say 50 Yes 5 No, or whatever.

Yes, read on.....
I have answered this question before but I think it's worth repeating I'm copy-pasting it: Whoever broke the law by arranging fake marriages, SSN's or things like that should be punished somehow before receiving any kind of forgiveness. Be real though US cannot afford to be without legal or illegal Immigration. That said I'd add this: Immigration in the US today is a joke. Illegals have more rights than legal immigrants and visa holders. I lived in the US for 8 years, my whole family speak English fluently, I hold a PhD degree. However because my work visa could not be renewed and I couldn't find any loophole in the law, fake wife, or wanted to stay in the country illegally, I ended up having to leave the country my kids learned to love. We all felt at home up there (contrary to some who live in ghettos and only speak their native language) and respected the US law while the global scumbags that will probably get an amnesty in a near future will benefit from their law breaking strategies. They will find defenders who say "they work hard and pay taxes" so let me tell you all this: I did the same PLUS under the law and because of that people like me is being punished. This sucks! I'm now well adjusted back in my country but I know my kids wish they were still there. Maybe, who knows, they will go back someday but I'll make sure they take no passports, produce fake ID's and SSN's and don't forget to go in a makeshiftboat ride or cross a desert so they can be more successful.....

They have people to read such as these questions for them, they care what people think because they need to know the majority line to keep/get themselves in power.

The problem is that there are hundreds and thousands of viewpoints and the politician has to choose only one. This is true for any politician, whether upstanding and moral or as bent as an old nail. Inevitably, most people will be disappointed with any politician's decisions. We also have no way of knowing whether a politician reads these questions or what else they get to read.

I was surprised to learn many don't even read the bills they sign. Imagine that? Ya...you'd think they should be spending some serious time reading about the concerns and experiences of the people they are supposed to serve. Kind of hard to keep touch with the real world otherwise. I mean outside of their gardner and maybe nanny they have no real clue of the impact on the rest of this society. I doubt many have their children in the public school system and don't think Bush or Cheney has had to sit for hours in an emergency room when they got sick. I doubt they would find it wonderful cultural diversity to have some guy releive himself on their front lawn or make lewd comments about his daughters in front of him as they walked in a grocery store. They have people to protect them and a guarded fence around their house. I sure wish I had the luxury of those blinders and guarenteed protection.

First they need to be made to work a normal work week and quit acting as if they are bloody superior to those of us who elect them. If I can work 6 days a week they can at least work 5. Running this gov. shouldn't have a time limit on it. This gov. should be running 24hrs a day. 1st 2nd and 3rd shift. Every single congressperson and senator should be put in jail if they don't do something about border laws being broken. They should have a time limit to get illegals out and prevent them from coming in. I'm tired of our gov not giving a frig about our safety, just so they and a friend can put an extra dollar in their bank accounts. Should they read these questions? yes, would they care what we think, DAH! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem, as Answers amply demonstrates, is that most people are idiots, and a significant minority are utter cretins. So ruling the country via the tyranny of the majority would be a pretty bad idea.

I totally agree with you about for example the question you were talking about but on the other hand some question/answers are so stupid that politicians could think they can go on with all their junk !!

They probably do,I think a few of them have asked questions on here even, but they really dont care what we have to say as long as they get the almighty dollar at any cost to us citizens. And I mean American ,Mexican, and Canadian citizens we are all the slaves to the government so they can be rich rulers of north america.

so if you've had to leave your country, after seeing your loved ones & other country-men slaughtered, & you arrive here, as a refugee only to find you can't survive just cos you don't speak the lingo - that's right is it?
I wish you lot of uncompassionate, unthinking types would put yourself in their poor shoes just for a second or 2.

But yeh, in answer to your question, politicians MIGHT get a more balanced point of view

Politicians don't care about you. They do what they want, because you're stupid enough to re-elect them and put up with their shenanigans. If you want to see a change in this country, vote independent or libertarian.

Remember, the people get the government they deserve.
