Wow, so much hostility...trunkjunk is the only one who even came CLOSE to answering your question...
I can also tell you my own opinion - being a member. When we think about the eternal scheme of things, men and women each have divine roles and they are not the same because men and women are not the same. Men hold the preiesthood because God holds the Priesthood. It is passed on from one man who holds it to another who is found worthy to hold it. Then men are the "breadwinners", the patriarchs of the family, the heads of the household, they give the father's blessings or healings blessings. The are basically the ones in 'charge'. Now, please do not confuse that with them being a slave-driver or that women are not equal in partnership. Women are the chosen vessel in which our Heavenly Father sends HIS children...how much more powerful can that be? How wonderful a blessing to know that we are his "tools" to bring about mankind. We are called to be the ones who raise the children, to care for them (that doesn't mean either that men have no responsibility when it comes to children)...Holding the Priesthood is a calling, being a wife and mother is a divine calling. Also, just to point out - men cannot become gods without their wife nor a woman become a goddess without her husband, we share the responsibilites.
I suggest maybe you read some talks given on the Priesthood by the women leaders of the church - like those in General Relief Sociecty Presidency or Young Women's Presidency if you want a woman's view...or read some talks from the General Presidency about Women and our role. Also, go to your Heavenly Father in prayer and ask him to enlighten your mind on the subject. Try to ignore slander from others, there will always be opposition to the church because it is true.

As a Mormon who has thought about this question I've come to the following personal understanding: A main point of the LDS faith (aka Mormon faith) is that we chose to come to this earth in order to learn and do specifics things as part of the bigger plan, which is to become more like God. One such lesson we must learn in this life is service to others. For women this lesson is learned naturally through the ability to have and raise children. While both the father and mother share this responsibility I think most would agree that a greater portion of the personal sacrifice is made by the mother. So us guys need something that requires us to spend our personal time, energy and resources in the service of others - otherwise we would spend all of Sunday stuck on the couch watching football. This is where the Priesthood comes in. The priesthood is not a power thing as much as it is a service thing. If you think about the different functions that a true priesthood of God would accomplish they would all be dedicated to the service of His children and not oneself. There is no doubt in my mind that women possess the same abilities as men and that the two are equal as man and wife but this is the order that God established since Adam and even before and He doesn't change.
Again, this is my viewpoint as a member of the church but you should talk to other members about this as well.

Obviously you are in search of God. And you seem to not really care how women are or are not treated. But you are searching for the truth. So I will give you some facts on Mormonism.
Mormons claim to be Christian, but they are way off base. While there are minor skirmishes and disagreements between the Methodist, Baptist, Assemblies of God, Nazarenes and the hundreds of other protestant Christian religions, they all pretty much agree that Mormon (Latter Day Saints included) are wrong and border on being a cult. The LDS church also prescribes the underwear men and women wear.
The Mormons do not even believe that Jesus paid for all of our sins. Just Adam's original sin.
They believe that the Book of Mormons is not just a guide, but also the same as the Word of God.
Go to a Bible believeing church like the Southern Baptist or Assemblies of God. Baptist are more traditional whereas the Assemblies of God is more contemporary.

Because both the Bible and The Book of Mormon say that women cannot be trusted with the 'higher calling' that is the priesthood. Try Paganism, priests are men and women.

Priests are ordained individuals, Mormons are run by lay people like the majority of Protestant churches, except Anglican and Scottish, so it isn't a priesthood at all. Women don't have the right to minister because they follow rigidly the Bible and we all know that women couldn't do that then.

Among many other things wrong the Mormons believe in many different gods. Joseph Smith was just another false prophet and Jesus said many would come. Mormons believe Elohim (God) has many wives and produces many spirit children. This is a very deceiving religion.
Don't join any church. Buy a copy of the King James Version of the Holy Bible and read it. Ask God to reveal Himself to you as you read His word. Also DNA has proven Joseph Smith wrong in his claim that the American indians are Israelites. He was one of the worst false prophets.

Women do not deserve the priesthood. Besides there is a secret mormon (Moron) sexual rite and Brigham Young stole a lot from freemasonry when he was fabricating a religion/cult.

It clearly states in the bible that women are NOT supposed to become priests, pastors, ministers, ect - look for one of the religions that allows gays and women to hold office then you can become a clergy person yourself
of course I am pretty sure that you will still go to hell but at least you will appear very christian here and all of your friends will be amazed at the amount of piety you display one of the best parts of becoming a member of these types of religion is that you can molest kids and still enter heaven...

Because one of the lone things that the Mormons do right according to a biblical mandate is not to have a woman in the pulpit.
