Why do people call an "answering" machine an "answering" machine if it doesn't answer ANY questions!!

because if you don't answer the phone, the machine answers the phone...so it's an answering machine...

It answers people's questions that people ask for our whereabouts..hence the "we aren't here right now..leave a message after the beep"
