Avoid foods with artificial coloring, such as beneful, (recently linked to the death of several dogs) avoid foods with fillers such as corn. I personally would avoid all purina and dad's brand foods. Bichons are prone to food alergies, not to mention allergies to grass, pollens and flea bites. I like Canidae and Eagle pack. I am a former Iams user until I found out about the testing they do, and basically it is crap in a bag. I purchase a 40# bag of canidae about every 6 weeks. I am feeding 2 bichons and a 96# lab mix. The way I figure it I am feeding 3 dogs for less than $1.00 a day. Canidae is pricey $39.97 at Pet Supply Plus. but when you figure I am feeding 3 dogs, that isn't too bad. It costs me more to feed my family than it does my dogs. Spend more initially, dogs eat less, stay full longer and their crap doesn't smell horrible, and it isn't the least bit sloppy, When my dogs were on the Iams, they ate more often and I had to buy over 60# per month, so it cost me more to feed them the Iams.
Check out the petfood website below. It rates foods with stars. 1 star being poor and 6 being the best. Remember the old adage, you get what you pay for!!! Eukanuba (Iams product) and Science Diet have poor ratings. Power of media, dog food commercials sway our judgement, but just read the label! I know you want what is best for your fur baby.
Bichonly yours
Patti.

Uhhhh.... a baby will grow out of being clingy, that is normal for a baby. Babies and young children will go through dozens and dozens of stages - but you wouldn't consider drastically changing a 3 year old's diet just because they have tantrums....? You're going to stop breastfeeding (which is by far superior to formula) just to change a developmental issue? That doesn't make any sense. If you give her formula she is still going to prefer you... for goodness sakes you are her mother. I think rather you could pump your milk and let daddy or anybody else feed the baby. Or you just enjoy the clingyness while you have it... by age 1 or 2 she'll be too busy and she won't want to sit with you... she won't want your attention the same way. You'll miss it as soon as it is gone. I guess this is a lesson that I learned as a new mother - there are certain times and certain things that babys do that make you grit your teeth but they change so quickly... enjoy every moment - even the ones that you can't imagine you'll ever miss. As for daddy - his turn will come. That doesn't make him feel better now but patience is a virtue. Good luck!

I have tried all the best dog foods for my American Bulldogs and I now feed Purina Beneful Puppy 17lb bag mixed with a 5lb bag of Hills science diet puppy food. They love it and the price tag isnt bad either.

I prefer Solid Gold brand-they have a puppy formula that is great-
Royal Canine also has breed specific formulations. Go with a high quality, meat based dog food-it will save you trouble down the line.

I believe Purina sells puppy chow especially for that age. Try getting that for your Bichon. That's what I did with my golden retriever at that age.
