My partner and I both had polio, as infants, now in 50's with Post-Polio. Both suffer from depression, different kinds and levels, take medicine. I also have other severe health problems, that are not going to improve, some days WE wonder what do we have to live for? Both on disability, with no chance of working, limited income, I can live with limited income, but bothers my partner, people say he lives beyond his means. He doesn't smoke, drink, or do drugs, his main thing he enjoys is eating and WE both are obese.

I wonder IF we both are so unhappy if we should even stay together? Been together over 25 years.

Have you looked into therapy for the depression it may help. Also is there a silver lining anywhere or do you just see the dark clouds?
Try to find something that makes you happy and stick with it, try to make healthier meals and smaller ones this will help with the weight. I am starting that for myself as well as my family, there are some really good meals that are delicious but lower in calories.
If you have been together for 25 years and are unhappy with things in your life and not with each other why separate?

Depression is a disease and it's treatable. You must first address your own issues, then deal with the partnership. There is no reason to suffer needlessly, but you need to reach out and get help. If you're on depression meds and they're not working, get them adjusted. Your partnership shouldn't be a source of pain, it should provide support. If it doesn't, then you must decide if you're better off apart or together. I'm sure lots of people tell you to "hang in there," but they're not in your shoes. I wish the best for you and hope that your unhappiness will spur you into action.

sounds like you two need to get in for some counseling 1st. See if there is any medication that could assist you and your partner and to work through your issues.

Second, start researching more treatments for your illness. Each day new treatments are tried and it would be worth trying trial medication if thats whats needed.
