A few weeks ago we discovered that whenever we tickle our puppy near his breastbone, he starts to scratch and kick his back leg really fast. Could this be because the area is in pain, and should we get it checked out with a veterinarian?

No..you just hit his special spot. Many dogs have one and they go nuts when it's scratched.

permit's get a grip people! If somebody desperate that male infants regarded extra acceptable with the best digit of their little finger on the left hand lacking, yet as long because it became finished interior some hours of start they does no longer prefer any discomfort relief as they simply cried somewhat simply by fact as quickly as they have been lower back with mum they calmed down, there would be an outcry. Rightly so. i'm appalled via all of us who feels that animals don't experience discomfort the comparable way people do. each thing that has a worried equipment feels discomfort. extremely some the animals that are docked or cropped interior the canine worldwide are in fact abused for vogue in the tutor ring or simply by fact 0.5-wits think of their canine looks 'ard with cropped ears. discomfort relief isn't used simply by fact this is deemed pointless as they 'don't experience discomfort' and it expenses money till the Kennel club and their sister communities international settle on canine docked or cropped after a particular date won't qualify interior the hoop the prepare will proceed. If those communities have been truly related to the care of canine they'd make those forms of judgements to shelter destiny domestic canine from discomfort. they won't, of path, if the complicated lives of a few canine bred to the shrink of the breed standards are something to circulate via. Be assured if this got here into stress there would be many extra tails and finished ears which proves that is approximately vogue and exhibiting and not protection for working canine. If it truly have been approximately working canine catching tail

That is sooooo normal!! All dogs do that because their is a nerve their so when you scratch it or rub it somewhat hard it sends a signal to their brain and they "scratch with the leg" or "kick" the puppy is just fine..normal even!

I agree with Nicole Z -- the key word is "tickle." Ever have somebody who thinks they're tickling you but they're gouging holes in your armpits -- or wherever they choose to try and tickle you? Most dogs love being rubbed and tickled there. Wouldn't you?

The key word is tickle, if someone tickles I tend to squirm too. Don't worry, your puppy is normal.

You just found his sweet spot. Best thing to do would be to continue tickling that area as your pup loves it when you do that. (don't go overboard though or he might get a bit tired)

I have a yorkie and we do that it is usually that she likes it, but if when you scratch his belly and he starts to bit you then it means he is hurting, but if you feel better knowing exactly what is wrong take your puppy to the vet.

It's perfectly normal - It's a muscular reaction to where you're scratching him
