HOW DID THEY CHEAT?

Yes they did (or someone else on their team did) in the same area of their cars, the wheel well. NASCAR vice president of competition, Robin Pemberton, said there were a couple of air ducts near the rear wheel tub and oil tank that are on the interior side of the car that should have been sealed off for qualifying. The caps on Kenseth's car weren't sealed and Kahne's were duct taped on. "And the duct tape that was used to seal it had been cut or made where it blew into the car," he said. It looks like Kenny Francis, Kahne's crew chief, and Robbie Reiser are going to get an extended "vacation" like Chad Knaus did last year. Monetary fines and point deductions may also be coming today or tomorrow. We will have to see what happens with Mikey as well, I don't think it was "oil" in his intake manifold.

First, every team in NASCAR understands the rules and tries to gain whatever advantage they can to help their driver win while still being in compliance or near compliance with the rules. So, in a sense, every team at least tries to cheat or gain an advantage.

Second, I seriously doubt that the drivers had any knowledge of what was going on with the car and that if anyone is at "fault" it would be the crew chief. So, I don't think the driver should be penalized since a driver really can't be expected to inspect his car completely before a race and ensure that everything is within the rules.

Third, whatever was going on with the air ducts may not have had any real effect on the race outcome. If Kahne and Kenseth had finished 1-2 way ahead of everybody else then I think it would be a problem that needs to be fixed and penalties need to be handed down but, I don't remeber either of them finishing well.

Last, since they said the ducts were partially duct taped it sounds like someone may have inadvertently forgot to tape it or tape it instead of premanently coevring it.

Botton line: This infraction is not a big deal.

All the drivers and teams cheat as they are all looking for that competitive edge so they can win the race and what I've found out is that it's not cheating unless you get caught, and when you do, you dont do that again, and you do something else so you can make your car better then all the other drivers and hopefully can win the race to gain more points and get higher up in the standings get into the chase and get more money and more sponsorship, and a bigger paycheck and race winnings. I know that they failed inspection after qualifying I beleive and their times were scratched from the qualifying order, but both are locked in to start in the Daytona 500.

Neither driver cheated. In these cases most often times the driver has no clue about things like this.

Nascar hasn't imposed any penalties yet.So I'm assuming there isn't anything in the Nascar bible about drilling holes in you fender wells. If its not in the Nascar bible its legal. They could be rewritting the bible as we speak.

Yes they failed Inspection. But I'm guessing that It is like Johnson last year. Their Crew Cheifs did it without the drivers knowing.
