You have two options...

Tell him and possibly have him break your heart.

Don't tell him and break your own heart for sure.

It's always worth telling. Better to have someone else POSSIBLY break your heart than to break it yourself for CERTAIN!

I feel your pain.. I always feel like my friendships with ladies that turn into love are the hardest to deal with. In past experiances i've realized it's always just best to get everything out in the open and get their opinion on it too. If they feel the same way you do then it will make for a great relationship. You have to be friends before you can be lovers anyway right? :) Plus, now that you love him every single time that your around him it's going to be emotionally stressful because you want him to want you. It's hard to remain friends because of this. Although if he doesn't want to take it to the next level then you might have to spend some time a part so that you can get over the feeling.. Anyways good luck.. hope I helped.

If he has really been a true friend after all of these years, then you should know him well enough to feel comfortable to be honest and open about how you feel. Let him know of your feelings, see what he has to say. Best of luck to you!
