No one can answer that.

I think it was there but in a different form.

Time, space, and gravity all do not exist with out each other. So there was not a before the big bang. We have a pretty solid understanding of what happened post plank era (about .43 seconds after the big bang, a very short era indeed.) It is the time before this that is hard to grasp. So, yes, it caused space to exist.

The Big Bang formed the space-time continuum that we are able to observe. However, it is unknown at this time if it was the beginning of the whole cosmos or of just our visible universe. Under the inflaton theory, the Big Bang/Inflationary Era is simply a quantum effect at the subplanck scale on a quantum field extrinsic to the visible universe. From that quantum field, our universe would be subplanck and undetectable, and because the Inflationary Era expanded at superluminal speeds, our visible universe would be causally dissociated from the originating field/Universe.

So it's possible there was something before the Big Bang. But we don't know.

Science's formal answer at this time: Um, we kinda need to figure out quantum gravity first. Give us a hand with that or get back with us with your question when we figure that out.

Actually relativity tells us that space is not separate and cannot be separated from time. So your question makes no sense. Space-Time simply is, it is not created or caused. However space time is also likely not fundamental and is based on something deeper. Do not think of the Big Bang Event causing space-time, think of it as a special event in space-time.

The Big Bang caused all matter, space and time as we know it to exist.

According to the current theory, the big bang not only created space but also time. So it makes no sense asking what there was before...(nothing would be the answer)

Genesis 1:1

God, unlike man, isn't conformed by the rules of space, time, and gravity. If God made all of that, why would he limit himself? Just because we can't defy those laws, don't think that he can't either.

according to cosmologists, the big bang generated all we can see in the universe including space. what lies outside of the universe is anyones guess.

Only the mind of God knows that one. No one can give you an answer.
