A small plant or a painting. Just something simple that they'll enjoy. Maybe candle holders with candles, or a pot puree bowl filled with pot puree.

If you know the new home owners well, then you most likely know what they have and don't have, need and don't need. If you don't have the answers to the wants or needs, then a lot of people will take a live plant. I have taken "Welcome Plaques or mats". One time I was lucky enough to find a mat that said: "Welcome To Our New Home". If you are creative, it would be nice to make something either decorative or useful or both decorative and useful in the new home. I have seen talented people take a batch of cookies or a cake in a nice new platter for the home or cake stand. One time I saw a really unique gift. Actually it was 2 gifts, 1- a broom with a bow around it and 2- a batch of cookies in the matching dust pan neatly wrapped in cling wrap and a pretty bow. There is nothing that can compare to a home made gift made personally by you. Hope this has been of some help.

If you know the person really well, you can bring something that might complement the decor in the new house. You can always bring a plant (unless your friend is like me and has absolutely no luck keeping one alive). A nice bottle of wine or a meal - it's nice not to have to cook when you're settling in.

What I usually do is get a gift card at a home store - either Bed, Bath and Beyond or Home Depot (if they are doing a lot of remodelling). That way, they can get whatever they want and you don't have to worry about whether it matches or not.

It depends on the person and how much you want to spend.

A nice bottle of wine is appropriate. If you're heading over on their moving day - food (pizza, chips & beer etc.) is a great gift!

If you know their taste, a nice little knick-knack, plant or some other keepsake is appropriate.

You can make a gift basket with some pantry staples, or cleaning products, nails to hang pictures, spackle, etc.

One of the best housewarming gifts we got was a gift certificate to Home Depot. We put it to good use, for sure!

A plant is nice. A gift certificate to a hardware store would be good too.

I take a dessert in a pretty dish with the recipe attached. They can keep the dish as a housewarming gift.

How about a picture frame with the Irish Blessing engraved on it..

May your troubles be less,
And your blessing be more.
And nothing but happiness,
Come through your door.

When I moved into my place I was given really nice Martini glasses from Ikea. Just think about something that they would need.
