I put on a crest white strip on my upper teeth last night and fell asleep on accident. I woke up an hour later and took it off. You are only supposed to leave them on your teeth for 30 minutes. My teeth are very sensitive today and have been hurting most of the day. Even when I breathe in air through my mouth, my teeth will hurt...
Will this sensitivity go away? I have learned my lesson on the white strips so please, no criticism...

Coat your teeth with a very high fluoride toothpaste, such as Prevident 5000, and keep it on as long as you can. If you have a mouthguard of some description you can line the mouthguard with the fluoride toothpaste and wear it as long as possible - perhaps 10 minutes. Then wipe the excess toothpaste off your teeth with a gauze (kleenex will disintegrate!) Brush your teeth with either the Prevident or a toothpaste for sensitivity for the next few days. Try to avoid swallowing the Prevident as high concentrations of fluoride hitting your stomach can cause nausea - if this happens consume something high in calcium (milk, cheese, Tums tablets) as the calcium binds with the fluoride and settles the stomach.

Sure it will go away later today or by tomorrow but there are some things to avoid. In the mean time take Advil or Motrin 600 mg to alleviate the pain and AVOID anything (even air) hot or cold to stimulate the teeth. Even when you eat today, warm only. The tubules in your teeth are opened up from the chemicals allowing any stimulation to reach the nerve faster. So try not to add to it by putting any stimulation on them right now. By tomorrow you'll be back to normal and be careful using them next time. That's the reason they say 30 minutes only but some people have hypersensitivity from the use of this product anyway. Good luck with the bleaching and hope I've helped!

When I used them, my teeth became sensitive and my gums were sore just using them the suggested 30 minutes. Leaving them on for an hour just allowed the chemicals to be on your teeth longer - causing more irritation.

If it hasn't improved in a couple of days, you might want to call your dentist.

Don't worry though - you should be ok.

I used these, and my teeth were sensitive for about 2 weeks. My gums became swollen. I don't think sleeping had anything to do with it, just a kind of crappy product. The whitening works if you can stand the pain and sensitivity.

sensativity seem to be normal with this product, as I have had the same experience. I stopped using them. I would just get a whittening polish. Like Pearl Drops or Close Up.
