It sounds like you already have the right idea - healthy eating and exercise. The only thing I'd add to this is that because you need to sustain this over the long term you need to ensure that you allow yourself some treats sometimes, so you don't just get horribly bored and give up. I'm sure plenty of people will shout me down for saying so, but eating a little bit of chocolate or a couple of biscuits every now and then can help to make your 'diet' - by which I mean 'what you eat' rather than 'weight loss plan' - so much more bearable. After all, you're in this for life!
Have a look at this website:
www.weightlossresources.co.uk
It helped me to lose 25lbs and get a much better idea of what I was eating and where I could improve my eating habits.
Good luck with your weight loss, and well done for taking the first steps towards it!

Here's the problem, my friend: If you look at this as something you're going to do until you lose the weight you want to lose and then go back to the way you were eating before, you're doomed to failure. You may lose the weight, but you won't keep it off. The reason you became overweight in the first place was your eating habits -- what you eat, how much you eat, and how often you eat. Doesn't mean you're a bad person; it just means you learned bad eating habits that made you put on weight. You're not alone. But make sure you read this and understand: If you want to lose the weight and keep it off, you have to permanently change the way you eat.
What's the best diet? There are many good diets, but I would recommend you check out the website below. This eating plan was developed by Tom Venuto, who is a five-time world champion bodybuilder. He gets into shape for tournaments without the use of supplements or fat burners -- it's all diet and exercise. Best things about this diet are: (1) Anyone can do it, so don't think you have to be a bodybuilder to go on this diet, and (2) It's 100% safe. Oh, did I mention IT WORKS?!?!!

Well, I am a vegan, and I have always not had any problems with weight since I have been one. Take a look at Supersize Me (the movie). Morgan Spurlock became a vegan, and he lost a lot of weight.
As a vegan, sure my diet is high in carbs, but it's low in fat. I also feel "satisfied" that I am getting carbs, and have lots of fiber in my diet, thus eating less.
Also, an average vegan's cholesterol is 154, while a meat eater's is 221. This diet is definitely healthy, friendly to the environment (no pollution from animals because of meat), and cruelty-free (no baby animals getting killed for me!).
Go to:
Peta2.com
Goveg.com
for more info.
My vegan diet has really helped me (and others around me) manage my weight. Easily, and without pain ( I actually get to eat carbs and "healthy" junk food).
P.S. - A vegan is a person who eats no gelatin, meat, milk, eggs, and some don't even eat honey and other animal products.
I hope this helps.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

Here is a place that reviews a bunch of weight loss programs, dieting aides, supplements and so on. Even has categories like diabetes, low fat and hypnosis. Pretty cool site.
http://www.reviewplace.com/cat-135-DietsWeightLoss--Top-10-Weight-Loss-Programs.html
Many of the programs listed have consumer reviews, so you can read what others think of the different programs.
Hope this helps!

It sounds like your on the right track. Don't forget to drink plenty of water. I have lost weight doing the same thing you are doing. I also took a good multi vitamin along with B6 vitamin for metabolism/energy. I did my exercising one to two hours after dinner every evening and I flat lost the weight. I went from 185 down to 120 in about 6 Months. Don't worry you will reach your goal in time for the 4th of July.

I would suggest that you start to strength train with free weights. If you build lean muscle it raises your metabolism and really speeds up the fat burning. You also need to get 20 minutes of cardio per day! And of course stick to a clean diet.

Make sure the fruits you eat have a low GL index (i.e. grapefruit, apple). Things like yogurt are bad for dieting. They have alot of sugar and cause insulin spikes which is counteractive to lyposis (fat burn). Aim for at least 6 small meals throughout the day.
