My first digital experience was as you suggest.
I bought a freeview box and hooked it up via a small indoor bunny arial. It required a booster to be used to strengthen the signal but then worked perfectly.
I have since moved into a basement flat without good sight out the windows and the signal was not strong enough to pick up all the stations, but if you are on the ground level or higher you should be fine.

Ok, it is absolutely dependant on what the signal is like in ur area. If you have an indoor aerial available, try it and see. Many things can affect digital reception: a lot of electrical equipment in the room could interfere with an indoor aerial: tall buildings or trees can block signal; and a boostermay well help if reception is low. Try it and see.

You may get something but I wouldn't count on it!
There are some High Gain mini aerials on the market but I wouldn't count on them to be honest! A lot depends on the area you live in and the signal strength! It may work for some and not others. I know for a fact that I can receive Freeview at home but two streets away - they can't - not even 200yds away
I bought a Wideband High Gain aerial for mine and just fitted it in the loft - works perfectly!

Jamie D, improve up sunshine. Many Freeview bins have aerial enter and output. Any of those will paintings effective. for sure the image high quality would be poorer than a scart/composite connection, and the sound would be in mono - unsure that would desire to be a brilliant subject on a conveyable television. in case you do choose to pay for television, sky and Virgin bins all have aerial output too.

yeah you can get free-view using a set top box and indoor Aeriel and as all analogue transmitters will stop transmitting soon starting from scotland and working south and you do not need to pay for subscription like you do with sky
