I wouldn't say that they drive themselves crazy, but I think that history shows that many real geniuses and successful creative people have had mental health issues (Van Gogh, Hemingway, lots of current actors etc.) Perhaps when one has a higher intelligence, that person has the ability and desire to see into the depths of issues and problems more than the average person. They might become frustrated about not having a solution to a question. The more one notices about problems and how they are handled in the world the easier it is to become hopeless (or depressed) obsessed (or manic or OCD)or delve into ones own mental world as a means of seeking and answer or escape. It ties up the emotions too. When one confronts issues over which one has no control it could be enough to push them over the edge too. All these responses to being more tuned into and understanding issues more deeply than others may make them appear to be "crazy" to those who are observing. I like to call these extraordinary folks "tortured souls"- When the drive either creates greatness or destroys the person-or causes themselves to destroy themselves.
I guess i would have to say yes, some of these "tortured souls" do drive themselves crazy. But there may well be just as many "non-smart" people that have the same issues; we just don't know about them because they were never famous.

Yes. I'm not saying I'm a genius, but I'd say I'm a bit smarter than the average person. I often drive myself crazy from stress. I often dream about things that I have been studying (chemical structures!), or think about what pathways things are taking in the body as I take a medicine or eat something, for example. Smart people think wayyyyy too much, which may or may not drive them crazy!

What was that movie which starred Anthony Hopkins? He attempted to outsmart his psychosis. It's based on a true story of a genius whom goes coo-coo and heals himself. No it wasn't Anthony Hopkins, aww man I can't remember this actors name! There's so many voices in my head right now....

There is a well-known positive correlation between high intelligence and depression. Best to be average, and good looking.
