I have an indented scar on my neck from where I had a mole removed last august. It is completely healed but it still has a darker color to it. If I lay out in the sun this summer will it help fade my scar. If not then what can I do to make it more of a skin color?

Unlike the rest of your skin, scar tissue doesn't have any pigment in it. This means that a) it won't tan, and b) it has no way of protecting itself against the potentialy harmful effects of sunlight. So you need to put sunblock on it whenever you're in the sun.

The thing that'll make the most difference to your scar is time - it will gradually become less obvious. You can also get special silicone sheets which you stretch over the scar over a period of a few weeks, that can help to reduce the appearance of scars (especialy raised ones). Ask your pharmacist for more information.

Good luck, and I hope the scar settles down soon.

Lying in the sun will make it stick out more as scars do not tan. the only thing you can do is purchase some cover up make-up and apply as needed. The scar may never go away as that is why they are called scares. When lying in the sun be sure to use some protection on your skin because this will also cause the scar to not only stick out more but may damage the skin to reach its full potential of healing.

Sorry, but no...it will make it worse, especially because it's still so new. You need to keep it covered while you are in the sun, with either sunscreen or a band aid. What you can do now before summer gets here is use Mederma, it's really good for helping diminish the appearance of scars. Good luck.

when i had moles removed from my neck, they told me not to get sun for at least a year there! it can make it worse. your scar is still going through the healing process. rub vit. E oil on your scar and massage it in...this promotes blood flow to the scar and allows it to heal better, and reduces scar tissue! if you're concerned, call the Dr. that took off your mole!

Sure and give you some skin cancer why was the mole removed? I wouldn't worry about a scar if I was you life has more in store but why push it into something that could be deadly for vainity's sake!
