besides for the lack of nutritional value as stated above, it is also because your body processes different substances in different ways.

For example "good" fat ie polyunsaturates and monosaturates are not stored as long as you are not taking in calories in excess. Saturates, including the dreaded transfats are much more likely to be stored despite the amount of calories you have taken in that day.

Many people make the mistake of equating everything down to calories ("If I eat 1500 a day then I'll be healthy!"), but there is much more factors involved for a healthy lifestyle
Therefore Chocolate = not a good idea!

Um, because your body needs nutrients, vitamins, and protein to live. Its not just about the calories you eat, but also the nutritional value you get from those calories. Also, 1000 calories is not enough, you should have at least 1200-1500 a day even if you're trying to lose weight. Otherwise your body will think it's starving, and will hold on to its fat.

Quality of diet is just as important as quantity.

No matter HOW MANY CALORIES YOU EAT, what you need to do is be mindful of your protein-carb-fat breakdown.

You should eat roughly:

25% protein
55% carbs
20% fat

If you get an Fitday.com journal, you can keep track of your food AND it gives you the calories and percent breakdowns so you can get an idea of how far off base you are.

Eating just chocolate would give you all fat and carbs. Since your body doesn't need that much fat/carbs, it STORES it in your cells and your fat cells get bigger. Also, without enough protein, your muscles would begin to deteriorate and get small and weak.

You could, but that would be not-very-much chocolate - and given a choice between not-very-much chocolate, and enormous heaps of fruit and veg plus maybe some steamed chicken or fish and perhaps some brown rice, with a few squares of chocolate as well, you'll pretty quickly decide to go for the latter, just so you aren't constantly starving!

(I'd second the suggestion that 1000 calories is too low, as well.)

Hope this makes sense!

I was on...well...a similar program. It is possible, but your hair will fall out, you'll be cold all of the time, you'll loose concentration and focus, and your skin will start looking blothcy and dried out. Oh, and you'll probably start feeling depressed too and cry alot.

You can!

You would be depleting your body however of what it needs to make you at your best physically and emotionally.
