The immigration process will take 1-3 years on average, sometimes longer depending on circumstances and backlog, and will cost an average of $1,200 per person in fees and associated other costs.
Canada does have a higher cost of living than the U.S., by about 35%. I don't know how it compares to other countries. However, Canada is beautiful, pristine, clean, refreshing and has a lot to offer.
I agree that Canadians tend to be reserved, while polite, they don't open easily to new people or welcome people quickly into their social circles.
If you like nature, wide open areas, outdoor activities whether warm or cold weather, then Canada is a great place for you to be! I am personally partial to British Columbia, but all of Canada is lovely.

My husband and I have recently received our immigration visas for Canada. There are several agencies out there who are all too willing to accept your money to do the application for you, but really it's not necessary. We didn't use an agency and we have no regrets about that.
If you choose to apply under your own steam, you should visit the following websites

These provide all the information you will need to choose which type of immigration visa you want to apply for, the approximate waiting times, the fees involved, the funds required, and the all the forms for the application itself are available to download. It's all fairly straight forward.
The most popular visa is the skilled worker visa for permanent residence, which is a visa allowing you to live and work anywhere in Canada. It is assessed on a points basis. You will find a self assessment tool on the website whereby you can calculate the points you will score, and from that you will know whether you qualify. Do also check out the processing times for visas submitted to the London Canadian High Commission office, as they are lengthy. Our visa took 30 months to process from the time we received our application acknowledgement card.
My tip from personal experience, is to be sure you are fully decided on moving to Canada, and have done a research trip before you apply for the visa. The process is lengthy and costly, and once your visa is in, you will have a tendency to feel as if you are living in a sort of limbo until you hear back from them in a couple of years time! The waiting is definately the hardest part of the application.

I have moved to Canada. ANd I moved straight back again after being there a while. I found it horrible. It was tooo expansive. If you dont drive you are buggered as public transport is absolutely horrific. Canadians are not the friendliest of people. They are cold arrogant and dont make friends easy. There is ALOT of drugs in Canada, alot of canadians smoke pot. A lot of them live a sad existence, without much of a sense of reality.
On the plus side, if you meet british people and stay away from trailer trash towns (orangeville, owen sound, brampton) keep to big(ish) cities the it could have potential. The beaches are amazing (they are fresh water) The scenery is nice. But be prepared for a lot of negatives! Mainly the people!!

Don't go to Canada come to Spain: you have everything here like the weather friendly people lots of sun sea and sangria, plenty of history and geography and many different cities, towns and villages to see. Give it a go

Well i live in the US and i think that you would be happy living in Canada. The scenery is beautiful but you have to love change in seasons. I hope this was any help??

Come to BC. The 2010 olympics are comming.,The climate in vancouver is good most of the year.. lots of rain not much snow. living in the suburbs cheaper than Van..Transit is cheaper than driving. Health insurance is $54.00 amonth .
