My 7 month old rat terrier felt very warm yesterday.... i know that when babies start cutting teeth a fever is likely, but does it work the same with dogs? He's been having problems with his teeth and is getting some pulled Friday.... What do i need to expect after his teeth are pulled? Do i give him antibiotic, etc.? How will he act? He's a pretty mellow dog, but is active enough to stay in shape. He loves people, will this change his amazing temperment, he is such a loving dog, i'd hate to see that change...

At 7 months, he should be just about done teething, but yes, dogs (Like children) can get a fever when teething.

If he's getting some teeth pulled on Friday, I'm guessing that he's having problems teething (Maybe adult teeth coming in but not loosing puppy teeth?). He could have an infection that needs to be tended to before Friday - Probably not a bad idea to call your vet today and let them know what's going on. If he does have an infection, they may need to treat that before pulling the teeth.

Whether he needs antibiotics will depend on the situation and your vet will prescribe them if needed. My vet recommended that for the first 2 days after my dog had 2 teeth pulled, that I feed him stage 2 Chicken baby food (Soft, but very nutritious). That's something you should also talk to your vet about.

His temperament shouldn't change at all - If anything, he'll be happier after having them pulled because he'll have less discomfort!

Depending on how many teeth and if they find any abcesses you may need to give antibiotics. Most times you do not need to.
If you are feeding a dry diet they may have you moisten it for a day or two but many dogs go right back to hard dry food just fine.
I had a Doberman who had major dental problems and he had about 16 teeth pulled at one time and was back to eating dry food two days after the work was done. He did take antibiotics for a week after.
It should not make any difference in his personality or tempermant. He should come through it fine and most likely will feel better anfet the teeth that hurt are gone.
Good luck.

First of all dogs always feel fairly warm, and you might have just noticed it more because you are worried about him. I really don't think dogs get fevers unless they have an infection of some sort. He should be fine but it may take a few days before he can eat hard food. The Vet will decide if an anitbiotic is necessary. He will probably act just the same the most important thing whether he eats much or not, is to make sure he is drinking water, if not call your vet.

Dogs do sometimes get fevers, but i'm not sure if that is true when they start getting adult teeth in. And when he gets his teeth pulled, your veterinarian will give you all the instructions and at home care. Sometimes veterinarians send home antibiotics, depends on if he has an infection in a tooth. And they will probably send home some kind of pain med. And it should not change his personality while he is at home. It may change his personality while at the vet office, as dogs Do remember what happens at the vet office. I work at a vet clinic, and a lot of dogs hate coming to the vet after they get spayed, get teeth pulled, or any other kind of surgery. Good Luck, your dog will be fine, and your vet will tell you more when you take him in!.

My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel had to have teeth pulled and he had no problems after the surgery. No side effects, no meds to take, nothing. He was a tad bit woozy after the surgery, but other than that, he was fine. He was his usual loving self within a couple hours.
Hope that helps a little!
