I have done this on some China flights.
Also took on board some really good sands I bought fresh before an Air France long haul to get over the hunger thing.
This was good for me as I ate when I wanted and not when they served up the main meal.
Given that some airlines will miss you out and offer a meal later on if sleeping, though not many as this affects the cart in ecom class of been in the way.
Get up and ask is my answer, worked for me.

I always bring my own food. I am usually traveling with my daughter who's 7. This way we can eat when WE want to, not when the airline wants us to. Besides, the food can be a little sketchy...

Sure, carried home-made trail mix, dried fruit, chocolate for a 14 hour trip to Australia. In addition to just having a decent snack, the dried fruit is nutritious and helps the digestive system (if you know what I mean).

Many diabetics carry food and so does Mothers with children. It is accepted by both passengers and Airlines

Whenever I fly some place...I always bring something to eat and drink. Airlines come around when they want to bring you food and drink....you might not be ready for food or drink when they bring it to you.
