First of all, castration is removal of the testicles, not the penis.

Here are some reasons I think its a good idea:

Reduces numbers of kids who's fathers are absent in prison.

Decreased testosterone level equals decreased agression, might make prison safer for inmates and guards, and repeat offenders.

Decrease prison rape-If you go in for D.U.I. and you get raped in the shower, you're not going to come out rehabilitated....

Would be a great deterrant, lots of guys aren't afraid of a couple years in "the joint" but would they think twice about losing their balls?

Hmmm, reasons not to...the ACLU argued in 1997 that child molestors have the right to procreate and have children of their own?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

wow idiots reside, that was the most thoughtless answer I've heard in a long time. How long ago was that and you're still dwelling on it? I suppose it's good they killed Kennedy since he was sleeping with Marilyn, he had it coming too huh?
Wow, just blown away at how dumb and irrelevant that statement is!

Great thought. But, unfortunately, it's illegal. Kinda like neutering a dog? Yes, I believe lowering testosterone levels could possibly decrease aggression. There for, decrease violent crime. It's possible. But, as we all know, criminals generally have more rights than then victims. Or so it seems to be that way now a days. I think the 3 strikes your out method works best. If you get convicted of the same crime 3 times, you'll be put to death automatically after the 3rd time. Wouldn't have to worry about overpopulation in the prison system anymore and the taxpayers wouldn't have to foot the bill to keep these degenerates alive. Just my thoughts. I love my country. But, our judicial system defiantly needs some work.

First of all, do you mean all felons or just the ones withsex crimes against other people, children, and women?I don't think you can compare a felony for 3dui's the same way as some sicko picking up little kids.If those are the ones you are talking about,(sicko's) why stop at castration? Once a sicko, always a sicko.

Although I am law enforcement through and through, I'd hate for someone to commit a basic fraud or some non violent crime even though it's a felony and lose the family jewels. Deterrent aside, let that apply to sex crimes only.

You can start with the Mac Daddy Felon; William Jefferson Clinton. For that matter, had he been castrated before becoming President, he might have actually been able to keep his mind on his job.

This would not stop them from hurting children.Think about it,there are other ways they would violate them. They should jail them never allowing them contact with anyone, except their kind. Some of those weirdos do that crap for other reasons than sexual gratification.Lock them up and never let them out.

Do you think we should then feed the "mountain oysters" to the inmates to cut down on the food bill?
