Abdominal strengthening does require traditional abdominal exercises like leg raises, crunches, sit-ups, side bends, etc. However, may people neglect the fact that the abdominals are stimulated in other exercises like deadlifts, squats, dumbbell rows, triceps pushdowns, shoulder presses, and other exercises similar to these. The abdominals are stimulated and strengthened by stabilizing your body during other basic exercises like the ones mentioned above. By the way, they just showed in a research study that exercise balls are not as effective as regular crunches, sit-ups, etc. Exercise balls demonstrated that they weaken some muscle groups and can cause spinal instability. So make sure you stick with basic abdominal exercises and exercises that work multiple parts of your body to strengthen your abdominals. One final tip, do your leg raises first in your abdominal routine so your lower abdominals are not fatigued.

Get 5 to 8 pound dumb bells and 20 reps a day in 3 cycles will just tone them up i am sure you don't want manly biceps. Also remember once you start it keep it up as muscle wastes quicker in the arm.... Happy exercising

Get one of those big exercise balls - they usually come with instructions and/or video. There are tons of ab exercises you can do on those.
