Religion has brought prejudice, war, hatred, and many other detrimental things to our society. Shouldn't we pass a law so that NO religion gets practiced anymore. There's no proof that God exists anyway, so it's probably just a huge waste of time, and energy.

Banning them seems kind of totalitarianism. The "cure" isn't worth the cost.

Better to educate people out of religion. Slower process but a more democratic one.

1) Religion hasn't brought prejudice, war, or hatred. People do.
2)On the good chance God does exist I am sure he is just as irritated and upset that people do violence in His name.
3) If a person wants to bring hatred or strife to humanity bad enough they would still find a way to do it even if they didn't use religion as a platform.
4) For every 1 person who strikes out in religious hatred there are 1,000 people or more who choose peace, and they do so BECAUSE of religious teachings.

Smoking is a waste of time and energy and physically harmful, yet we allow that to be practiced.

Religion has also brought great works of art, acts of charity, led to the establishment of schools and care for the aged, shelter for the homeless and food for the hungry. In many American cities today, if not for religious schools, there would be no decent alternatives to the disasters of public schools there.

If you remove religion, do you remove prejudice? No. Racists will still exist. Do you end war? No, wars will still be fought over ethnic and resource issues.

Have you got any proof than God does not exist? One of the old fathers of the Church said that one of the evil's biggest achievements is to convince some people that this world is everything.

Besides, if you are an atheist you shouldn't forget that "prejudice, war, hatred, and many other detrimental things to our society" were brought by atheism more than by any religion. See Jean Francois Revel's "Black book of communism".

It's true that religion has been the source of bad things, but the same can be said for non-religious people. At the same time, there has been a lot of good done in the name of religion just as there has been a lot of good done by non-religious people. And while there is not proof that God exists, you also can not prove God doesn't exist.

What it boils down to is tolerance. Just as we expect people to be accepting of all races, sexual orientation, etc., we should also expect people to be tolerant of differing religious beliefs.

I am atheist and the idea of a supernatural creator of the universe makes no sense to me. But I do not believe it is my right (or the right thing to do) to impose my beliefs on others.

What country do you live in? Last time I checked I live in a free country. Mankind doesn't need religion to hate. Hatred comes from the heart of mankind. If your idea is right then all atheists have reached perfection and should never sin. Proof this fact to me and maybe I'll believe what you say.

While they can, if abused, lead to great suffering, the psychological benefits of belief that is reconsidered, questioned, and reflected on seem to do some good. I mean, consider the security blanket of forgiveness.

Also, are you looking to remove all things that derive from religion, or just the practice itself?

Must everything be based in reason?

This country was founded by people looking for religious freedom, with out that drive and determination our country would not be what it is today. While we are banning religion why don't we ban doctors too because they kill tons of people each year. Oh yeah cars too, how many deaths are caused by cars each year. Alcohol and tobacco too while we are at it. Its America, we are free to practice religion just as you are free not to believe.

No. No, no, no. People can believe whatever they want.

To me, it's the same reason why I think illegal substances should be legalized. Idiotic people should have full rights to be idiots. The only objection would be when they get into politics.

The only 'ban' I'd propose would be to charge the evangelical army of brainwashed republican children who worship George W. Bush as their lord and savior with corruption of our youth, and shut down the downright sickening movement.

Just like smoking: People can decide to be stupid (In this case, the church, not the believers. The followers are victims), but please, "for the love of God," keep it out of the air I breathe.

Satan would love that and he could completely take over. Praying saints keep Satan from taking over now. Religion didn't bring prejudice, war, hatred, and detrimental things - MAN DID. There are only 2 religions - God or man.

If you don't believe in god, then don't, neither do i but you're doing exactly what they try to do, impose their views on the entire world, it's kind of hypocritical and intolerant, it's not religion, it's people, they'd fight about something else if religion wasn't there
