I was in jail only one time, in a sheriff's station in california. I'll never forget the breakfast they served it was just awful. It tasted so bad I couldn't eat it. They let me out afterwards. I told my lawyer that I'm never going back to jail because of that bad food.

Jail food around here is not good. I've never been there mind you. But they had an article in the local paper just recently. The prisoners were trying to sue because the sheriff took away their Kool-Aid and said they can drink water instead. It would help cut down on the cost to the taxpayers. Well, the prisoners did not win and now they get water and bologna sandwiches. TOO FUNNY. I agree, feed them slop. If you make things too comfortable, then they won't mind being in there. The idea is to punish these people. Not send them on a vacation.

Remember what you were given to eat in grade school? That's about it. Not very fancy, but it does the job. Most jails have a form of commissary where you can buy extra food from money that friends and family "put on your books". You can get candy, coffee and whatnot.

An important part of jail food is that it doesn't need knives to eat it. Lots of pasta and cassarole type of dishes. It has to be cheap and easy/fast to prepare and easy to serve, and not have tastes that are too strong.

well i work at a jail in Kentucky, and it actually not that bad, the biscuits are Pillsbury, the sausage is bob Evans, everything is name brand and made from scratch with a group of five inmates that serve our jail of 130 inmates. they eat tacos, spaghetti, bacon, burgers, french fries, its all pretty good because i eat it. its really not that bad, we always have three hot meals, once in awhile dough nuts and cereal, but never Bologna or hard boiled egg. all good food. oh and here the catcher, on holidays they eat steak, turkey, fried chicken, and these are the best meals, even sometimes as good as homemade. this is an example of your tax dollars at work.

It is institutional food, like school hotlunch on a bad day. It has all the stuff to keep you healthy, but usually not prepared in a way that people want to eat.

I would hope that jail food is garbage because if you are in jail, you don't deserve to be eating Filet Mignons. They use our taxes to buy food, and it's not fair. I don't want my money, to go to some damn rapists food. They do not deserve food at all.
